I believe the current starting salary for video-journalists in Leeds/Hull is about 32k. Not bad if you are just out of college.
Not, of course, that you'd get a job like that straight out of college. You might as well write "The Chairman of ICI gets half a million pounds. Not bad if you're just out of college."
to correct you - I know of at least 3 bbc video journalists who have done just that - got their jobs straight out of college.
It's times like this I wonder about the viewers in East Yorkshire, depending on what channel they watch they either get a programme dedicated to one of Yorkshire's biggest stories in years or half an hour of nonsense.

Or to put it another way here in East Yorkshire we can choose between half an hour of East Yorkshire news (Look North) or half an hour of West Yorkshire News (Calendar which yesterday according to this forum dropped the East opt out).
The Bombing is major news I agree but the remit of the local news is to carry news local to the transmission area. You would not expect Hull Look North to carry news about Manchester or Birmingham so why Leeds?
Leeds is one of the North of England's main cities - thousands of people in the Hull, the East Riding and Lincolnshire work there or study there. Many more have family there. Thousands shop there - because the shopping in Hull is so piss poor.
Don't tell me they don't want to know what's going on there.
This is the biggest story in Yorkshire for a decade. I am utterly astounded that viewers in some notional tv region have to sit through half an hour of Peter Levy's self indulgent crap.
Don't give me any nonsense about local tv and local audiences. There is only one story in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire tonight - and tonight the BBC in Hull failed in its basic duty - to provide regional news. To have a lead story about a trampoline! Oh my god, it was desperate. Heads should roll.

I wonder if tomorrow night's special programme which Andrew mentions above is being transmitted in the Peter Levy part of Yorkshire?
Peter said somebody had e-mailed in saying that the name "Look North" was a geographically incorrect title for the show, suggesting East would be more appropriate (sounds like a member of this forum).
Peter has opened it up now for viewers to suggest an alternative, get e-mailing folks !!
Anyone sick of that nauseating world map at the end of the show where people e-mail in to say where they're viewing from ? Why do we need to know that our licence fee is funding this tripe for a handful of viewers in New Zealand ?
How many of the people who constantly complain about Look North for Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire actually live in the Belmont transmission area?
Over here we used to get our news from Leeds and this area used to get one token story per day if we were lucky. We now get a full programme and in my opinion this is progress. I do not know anyone at all in Hull who thinks we were better off before the split.
