Just to let you know that the YTV/Calendar sports department picked up two RTS awards for it's sport programming last night (justifiably celebrated on tonight's packed show). Not daft little internal awards (your opinion I believe) but real industry ones.

According to Broadcast, John Shires hit out at ITV in his acceptance speech, saying that the cutbacks mean that it's the last time anyone from YTV will be able to pick up a sports award.

ITV regional sport producer John Shires landed a Royal Television Society sports award last night and used his acceptance speech to accuse ITV bosses of neglecting regional sport.

Shires last night won the best National or Regional Sports Programme category with his film, King John, about footballer John Charles for ITV Yorkshire.

"It's the last time anyone from Yorkshire will be up here to collect an award owing to the sad neglect of regional sports programming by ITV," said Shires, alluding to ITV's decision to slash regional non-news programming from 3 hours a week to 1.5 hours.

Meanwhile ITV Yorkshire/Granada Television also picked up the award for National or Regional Sports Actuality Programme for Fight Night Raw.

Bad news for Look North in Hull - absolutely appalling ratings for the last six weeks.

No surprise there.

EXACTLY what we've been saying here for MORE than six weeks.

I understand it's the ONE (sub) region in the country bucking the trend of a general viewer flow FROM ITV TO the BBC.

Bad news for Look North in Hull - absolutely appalling ratings for the last six weeks. Record low audience figures released to staff today - decribed by my friend (works there) as 'utterly demoralising' . YTV audience nearly double that of Look North Hull. Looks like audience has finally tired of silly banter and poor journalism. Good to see YTV picking up some credible industry awards last night. Sad that the BBC has to rely on internal awards which nobody has heard of.

So why was this back-water region given a 18:30 programme rather than a "Look East - west" from Cambridge or MK?

Knock it off Katherine. You're usually the first to break such confidences - although only when it suits you I note.

Museumperson has said he was being would up - but I fail to see why an apology was proffered.

I apologised because I know that Look North is a very big part of Katherine's life
