Look North Leeds won two Ruby awards last night - Sean Stowell receiving one for good reporting, and Harry and Christa won one for best presentation (or something like that)....

Bearing in mind the Ruby Awards are only open to people working in BBC regional news, I thought I'd remind you of your comments on Calendar winning at ITV's equivalent awards a few months ago...

Yes, but given this was an ITV-only awards thing, it's not exactly a big victory given only half the opposition was eligible.

I am merely reporting a bit of Yorks/Lincs presentation news. I did not fanfare it. I could have done, but opted to inform the people reading this thread in pretty much the same understated way Andrew reported Calendar's win. Am I not allowed to do this?

No, because you are very hypocritical.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother.

Of course you are. I'm just surprised you bothered to inform us if you consider this type of award ceremony so lacking in merit.

Anyway, take it easy. Sorry to hear of your sad news.

With the new running order after the 6 it means we no longer get a regional announcement before Look North.
Also we don't have that wide shot and introduction with the ident music still carrying on in the background

So it's all gone pear shaped on Hull Look North. We've always said they don't serve Lincolnshire very well, but the people of North Norfolk being left off the weather map completely is a good one, they didn't notice until people started complaining! - Paul says it'll be back on by the end of next week!

Paul decided on a brown jacket and a brown tie tonight to match the brown maps

Gavin, if you know how seriously the guys in Look North take this forum I can see much more laughter ensuing than explanations from Kat's post. Timing of information onto here is er, interesting to say the least!

Katherine, if you remember what happened to Helen Fospero when she wanted to do the decent thing, give notice and say goodbye to the viewers on the last show, you'll realise that the first you would hear about Peter leaving is after he's gone!

Alf, considering Helen first said that she was going to leave as soon as she found something suitable in London while she was on maternity leave after having Francesca, you didn't report it until October, and the event didn't happen until February... your timing was a little weird to say the least!
Without confirming or denying anything I would say if Peter were considering leaving, mentioning it within six months of the event might make it look more like you knew something than that you made a lucky guess... Just a thought. Y'know the expression "It's all in the timing"? Yours is appauling!

Why is NW Norfolk not represented by the labelled towns/cities?

I've never seen LN(Hull), but I find these revelations interesting. You say they don't serve Lincs very well. And we can all see that they've forgotten that NW Norfolk exist, on the weather map.

Given that "officially" the only bit of Yorkshire that they serve is the East - and therefore most of their patch is Lincs/NWNorfolk - how can they manage to ignore the non-Yorks areas so much?

I can't imagine that EYorks alone can possibly generate enough news to fill 30mins.

and on the Leeds programme at exactly the same time, Ian White was with Dickie Bird!

Criticism is fine where it is due but tonights edition was good. It had enough news, sport and local features from both sides of the river. It was well presented without being stuffy the programme seemed to go quick (and no one is paying me to say this!!).

It may be a one off and only time will tell but it certainly seems to have improved.
