Still, Boston got top billing tonight, so progress there?

Well you would say that wouldn't you, but what a poor story, some bloke brings a world war 2 bomb home from a fishing expedition. So what ?

This, on a day when a new international airport opened in the region, and they could barely muster a report about it, other than a chat with some bloke from Humberside Airport. Like so what ?

Calendar provided full and comprehensive coverage of this event, with live OB's and reaction from locals. Meanwhile, Look Hull had it's priorities all wrong with some minority interest story, just to pacify the hard done by Boston contingent.

Will see if I can get any reply from the programme - Now you bring it to my attention, I think on hindsight it deserved more coverage.

Emley Look North actually covered it excellently. Harry Gration, Cathy Killick and Paul Hudson all going down there yesterday with the bulk of the show dedicated to it. I believe a large portion of today's show also came from there...

Yesterday's Election special on ITV1 was fairly interesting. They had an OB from the Huddersfield University Student Union. My attention kept being turned to the TV's in the background, the delay between the pictures being done live and being received on the TV was a good 5 seconds. I bet the students thought they'd had too much to drink (although they probably had)

Just sent the following to Look North:

Quote:
Dear Look North,

I'm writing to register my significant disappointment regarding the amount of coverage that Look North Hull has given the opening of the new Robin Hood Airport.

Bafflingly, on a day when the first new British airport for nearly 40 years opens, bringing new jobs to the area and more travel opportunities and destinations for the region's populace, Look North Hull did not choose to open Thursday's show with such a historic event. Instead, it (erroneously) in my opinion opened with an unexploded bomb. Would it have been my choice, the opening of Robin Hood Airport would be first on the list.

On other regional news programmes, the airport was deemed a big enough story to warrant sending Harry Gration, Cathy Killick and Paul Hudson down to Doncaster yesterday to devote nearly their entire programme from the airport. Today, your rival show, YTV Calendar also pulled out all the stops with their coverage, sending down one of their presenters to gauge public reaction with live OBs from the airport, as well as full and comprehensive coverage of all other angles to the airport's opening.

Sadly yesterday (and having the luxury of Sky Digital), my viewing loyalties went back to my old 'stomping ground' of Look North Leeds for most of the programme, only turning back to Hull to see the forecast with Peter and Paul. At all other times I was watching Leeds. Seeing the exemplary coverage that Look North in Leeds provided, I am certain that Hull could have, and SHOULD have done something to match Leeds' efforts, given that a huge amount of the region's populace and economy stands to benefit from this new amenity. A very thin, marginal sliver of the populace would have been affected by the unexploded bomb story.

This is where the single-header format goes badly wrong, and should be given a re-think. If the show was hosted by two presenters rather than one, then Peter for example could have gone to cover the story on the scene (or on the runway) whilst someone like Helen Philpot could have been available in Hull to provide a run-down of the day's events. If Peter HAD gone to cover the event yesterday, then Paul Hudson would have been on hand and on-site to give live forecasts for both Emley AND Belmont (as well as face-to-face banter), removing the need for Paul to pre-record a forecast from Leeds.

Like that, I feel the show could have been MUCH better than it was. Today, I think that Look North in Hull got its broadcasting loyalties very badly wrong, and failed to provide their viewers with sufficient coverage of the Airport's opening.

Yours sincerely.................

In a shock move, I am joining with the doubters, as I'm not going to defend the indefensible.

I am told that big changes in staffing both off and on screen are on the way. Yes, it is that bad.

Now then, where's that CV? Opportunity knocks.... again.

UPDATE: That wasn't a joke. After months, nay, years of indecision (one of my bad points - indecision), I am going to turn that 'joke' serious.

Am writing a genuinely serious CV to them, offering whatever assistance they should need, and deem appropriate.

UPDATE:

Just heard it on the grapevine that (don't know if Square Eyes, Andrew, Huddy and Alf Garnett are going to believe this), Look North Hull has been nominated in the 'Nations and Regions News Programme of the Year' category at this year's Ruby Awards ceremony to be held in York on 16th May!

My response was simply 'blimey!'
