Maybe because it's entertaining and people from all spectrums and age groups actually want to watch. Or maybe we could watch the boredem that is Granada Reports or wheel Anthony back to mouth some obsenities.

It may be entertaining, but it's not meant to be an entertainment programme is it?

I do believe a regional news magazine is supposed to feature an element of entertainment.
For goodness sake, Noddy was only on screen for about 30 seconds as the 'and finally' item, it wasn't as if it was the lead story, they had been a good 20 minutes of news and sport before it!

Hmm I knew I should have put more in that post. I don't think Caldendar is the worst offender in any case, but there are some regional news programmes that have begun going down the route of being entertainment or even consumer driven rather than reporting the news. Just look at what happened to London Tonight.

Tonight's Calendar...

Tim Iredale had a problem with some chavs in the background in Hull tonight "look I'm on the telly". I bet they don't behave like that when John Prescott is at home, he'd give them a punch and tell them to bugger off

Don't miss the Election special tommorow at 11.10pm on ITV1 Yorkshire

It's Max Farnham. Not sure what the link to Hull was, no doubt he's in a play in Hull soon.

Ah you southeners! I agree that London Tonight has been destroyed to a paltry version of itself by the ITN team (you can't believe that they actuall produce a great national service and the superb Channel 4 News can you?), in fact of the current ITV regional News programmes, only the former HTV Wales and Central News West actually performs in my book on a par with Calendar. It's a shame really, as London Tonight use to be very watchable........Even dear old Meridian Tonight with Fred has been toned to a lighter shade and Fred doesn't suit that studio (bring back Coast to Coast). Anyway, that said, anything is better than Look Hull.
