Hi,
Does anyopne know why the Hull Look North version doesn't feature any sports highlights when most other BBC region do ...... I remember Simon Clarke used to present sporting links but I haven't seen him for ages.

Shw

I mentioned this the other day, a few pages back now. The sports coverage on Look North Hull is non-existant. And when you consider they have 5 Football League teams in the region, there is just no excuse.

It's a bit bad when my Dad has to see East Midlands Today to check up on Boston United when they're at away matches....

There's a comprehensive football round-up on Calendar News and Sport on a Sunday teatime you know...

Don't tell me your dad's biased to the BBC as well, it must run in the family!

What's the point of us turning to Calendar when East Midlands Today meets our sporting needs? It's always been the way that we have national news first, and local news second. Been like that since I was young. I'm not interested in local sport outside Boston United anyway...

The family has always got the Radio Times and it didn't contain programming information for ITV until I was in my teens. By then my viewing habits had been pretty much formed and my interests catered for very well by the BBC. When the Radio Times started to contain listings for ITV, I saw nothing in the schedules that interested or motivated me sufficiently to change my viewing habits. Now i have Sky Digital, if there's a programme that looks reasonably interesting on ITV, I've always been able to find something even better on UKTV or other documentary/news channels.

The East Midlands is a smaller region in size and population to the service area of Calendar. As a result, there are fewer League football teams in the East Midlands so there's a chance that Boston gets more of the airtime.

How far are you thinking of? I assume you're thinking Hull City, Scunny (to avoid profanity filter), Lincoln City, Grimsby Town and Boston United.

Aren't you forgetting Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, Doncaster Rovers and Mansfield Town in that lot?

They're not covered in Hull Look North, how many stories do we see about Sheffield ?

They are in the "grey area" that is covered best by Calendar South, they certainly aren't served by Look North Hull, so I assume they are in the Emley version.

*SADDO TRANSMITTER MODE*

The dominant transmitter for Mansfield's actually Belmont - gives the strongest signal for the town..... Doncaster's evenly split Emley/Belmont aerial-wise and I've seen a few Belmonters dotted around eastern parts of Sheffield city. A lot of nothern Notts towns (as well as western parts of Lincolnshire) are in what's known as the 'economic hinterland' of Sheffield too.... there's a bit of Belmont in Sheffield....

Lunchtime Today;
YTV's (!!) Calendar- Gaynor Barnes
Look North - Harry Gration and Peter Levy

Surely it is now a lot harder for Peter with working all these hours. Poor Peter. Crying or Very sad

Also a reminder - Tonight on ITV1 at 9pm Fat Friends is on and there will be a sneak peak Behind the Scenes at YTV Weather. Should to worth a lot..... Maybe spot some Chevrons? Very Happy

Interesting mispronunciation by Paul there on Belmont weather - instead of Monday, he said 'Moonday' - I feel a little faint.....

Quite telling how much things have changed in 8 years at BBC Leeds. in 1997 the Queen visited Bradford for the Maundy service, and there was blanket coverage on Radio Leeds. This year she's in Wakefield, and it's almost getting more coverage in the travel bulletins than in the news.

I assume you are joking? He starts at 10am and finishes not much after seven, Helen starts anywhere between ten (usual) and two (occasional), but is stuck there till gone half past ten at night. I know which job I'd rather have!

Maybe they've realised that people actually don't care. There is such thing as overkill.

No, NOT joking at all... The work load was halved when Helen was there...

Halved? She never started 'till two or after, unless she was doing lunchtime when she arrived about 12. Peter has always started work at 10, and to suggest the workload was halved would be to claim that Peter (and Helen) had no help from researchers/reporters or any of the other people who help make the BBC tick. Then of course there is Jenny who does the Breakfast Bullitins, why does she work till lunchtime if Peter is doing everything himself? Back in the days of Helen F whoever did the early bulitins was away by 10 at the very latest...
Is Peter technically a journalist or just a presenter?
