As this election campaign is going on in the UK. Something quite serious is brewing around the Irish parliament as well.
There are rumors floating around from the Irish parliament in Dublin tonight that it's own government could have a possible GE in it's hands which could take place a few days before the new year. This rumor relates to a no-confidence motion on it's housing crisis being taken up by the Social Democrats which is against Ireland's Minister for Housing; Eoghan Murphy.
It came as a big surprise because the Irish government did not expect this motion at all in the lead up to Christmas.
There is another challenge for it's parliament as well. It has 4 by-elections taking place this Friday. The people who win these seats are meant to take them up on Tuesday afternoon. They will be called along to the Dail Chamber, along with the other elected TD's, to vote on the no-confidence motion on Tuesday night. If the government lose the vote on it by then; a GE will be triggered. It is being reported from RTÉ News that it is meant to take place sometime around the New Year with a date of the 28th of December. Although this date could change if the government loses it's no-confidence motion vote which is to take place at 10pm next Tuesday night.

That date is insane for an election.
Ireland normally votes on a Friday which is the 27th.
There will not be an Irish general election in December. The Fine Gael led minority government have said they are confident of winning the no confidence vote, and no TD in the Dail would dare risk the wrath of hell from the Irish voter on forcing a December general election on them, they are not that idiotic in the Oireachtas.

Tell me how the 28th December is considered "New Year"?
I will tell you more information about the vote could take place on Tuesday.
The outcome of it basically all hangs on the 4 by-elections that are taking place this Friday. If any of the remaining seats in the by elections are won by Fianna Fáíl candidates; they cannot vote in favour of the government party which is Fine Gáel. Fine Gáel are leading a minority government in Ireland because they have a confidence & supply agreement with Fianna Fáíl. Fianna Fáil, on condition due to some negotiation within the confidence & supply agreement, will have to abstain from the vote on Tuesday night. Winning the vote by then on Tuesday will then be depend on some opposition TD's being on side with, maybe with some extra TD's elected, for Fine Gáel.
It does not spell out good things that will come towards all of the voters in the constituencies that will have their by-elections this Friday. They may not like the idea of themselves of voting in a election for it's own parliament twice within a space of a month that relates to a critical issue on the government in the Republic which is housing. The housing issues relate to the lack of supply in social & affordable housing stock among various local authorities in Ireland, people paying high amounts of rent when being housed on it's private rental market & on the rising numbers of homeless people being presented to homeless charities across the country.
Just this week; Dublin City Council have begun to hand out eviction notices to over 12,000 of it's tenants due to them being in massive rent arrears by not paying their rent. Tenants who don't pay their rent to the local authorities is a very big & real problem in Ireland. The amount of money that was due in rent arrears among from housed by the various councils at the end of 2018 stood at €73.6 million. I am not sure how will this will pan out overall in Dublin because I don't know how they will get a home after they have officially been evicted. Those who will be evicted might be putting more severe pressure on resources provided from homeless charities & hostels in Ireland because they will be officially declared homeless. More taxpayers money could be provided for in future to try & stem this crisis.
It gives Irish voters, like myself, a very murky future regarding this issue as we head into 2020.
If there is a general election triggered, how long does an Irish general election usually take place? Is it the same as with us here in the UK, around 4 to 6 weeks?
