If not, there is always the George Lucas Stage 1 next door to the Strictly Come Dancing studio in George Lucas Stage 2 - if the BBC wanted to really go big scale, using a vast stage, they could.

The people in the background of an election set are actually working on newsgathering and result analysis; this means they need access to a lot of live feeds and data, which means beefed-up information security requirements compared to your average studio production. I believe this rules out any third party studio for the BBC's results show.

With the frequency of elections now, they should consider building a permanent facility! Very Happy

Do they still need lots of journalists and number crunchers on set in 2019? It's not as if they're gathering the information and handing bits of paper to the presenters these days. Most of the work takes place in the hub and as has happened recently this can be miles from where the presentation is happening

The Elstree hub is permanant, as was I believe the one at TV Centre. Some bits of equipment are hired in as they're too expensive to have sitting around for months

Let’s not forget ITN: we presume Mr. Bradby will lead the charge? With Julie Etchingham on the night itself.

Alastair Stewart would do the 13th daytime continuation, I’d imagine.

It would be good to see Alastair doing a role. He is experienced and will be a valued contributor.

As for George Lucas stages; would be good to have a Star Wars intervention especially as the final film is released the following week.

BBC will be unpacking their 2017 election set. Children in Need will be held on Friday 15th November in Studio D at BBC Elstree, so once that is out of the way, they will build in the election studio set by December 1st, ready for rehearsals.

So have the other bookings for Elstree been cancelled completely or moved elsewhere?

How do we know Studio D is booked for election week? Do any of the audience ticket websites say of any productions in Studio D for that week?

I don't know, I assumed you did since you stated the set would be built as soon as CiN derigged?

Tom did the night, then extended Good Morning Britain and then Julie took over in the morning/lunchtime. Alastair had no role iirc.

You’re mixing two elections.

2015 - Tom and Julie overnight, Tom, Ben and Susanna on GMB, Alastair daytime

2017 - Tom overnight, Piers and Susanna on GMB, Julie daytime

I hope they get Osborne and Balls back this year

I used logic on that, as Children in Need is booked into Studio D and will be on Friday 15th November, this gives the BBC a month to make sure their election set is up and ready for 12th December.

Its not suddenly surprised everyone in broadcasting. The plans for this election have been in place for some time. Bookings for studio D include Christmas Top of the pops so you might see a bit of tinsel around the election studio. Wink Very Happy. And the newsroom Christmas party was is the 12th Shocked

The Sun are saying if the Tories win a majority the aim is for Brexit to be 11pm on New Years Eve. So broadcasters will be preparing one scenario of big news coverage being needed over the holiday. I can’t imagine Graham Norton airing on BBC1 the moment of Brexit.

AIUI the Hub is really only used for outside source production - it isn't used for results production and show production, nor for the teams working on the psephology aspects of the show. One of the major benefits of the TC1/Elstree D set was that it avoided needing lots of temporary office space for these roles. They still need to be housed somewhere if they aren't in the studio (and don't have space in the hub) - but they don't need to be physically within a studio (or even the same building I guess)

Yes - some elements are permanent - but there is still, AIUI, a lot of bespoke rigging to be done and kit installed. It's still a non-trivial exercise, even though the space is permanent.
