I would imagine Ken Bruce continuing is more likely.

I believe the producer has stepped in on at least one occasion.

Anne Diamond is covering tomorrow as Jeremy is attending his father's funeral. He mentioned it on-air that his dad passed away just before the show launched.

That's very sad to hear. I have one of Tim Vine's stand-up DVDs, and one of the best bonus features is his dad coming on stage to tell the first joke he told to his son.

How much of Jeremy Vine's show on Channel 5 is pre-recorded? Because I see in the ticket website that they say "The show is due to end at 10.15am" - as we know the show airs 9.15-11.15am, does this mean Jeremy pre-records the last hour of the show at around 8.15am, so to ensure he can get to Wogan House in time for his Radio 2 show at noon?

Now it could just be in my nature to plan for the worst case scenario, but what does Jeremy Vine do if an absolutely massive story breaks at 10.20am, or worse, at 11am when he's on his way to Radio 2? Say a terror attack or the Prime Minister resigns? And what if there's been a huge development in one of the newspaper stories when he is literally on his bike?

Possibly some arrangement to go to 5 News if it's a big enough story requiring rolling coverage?
Write that down in your copybook now.
