Though the BBC News article states "Vine will juggle his new role alongside his daily BBC Radio 2 show" I can't help thinking this might be only for the short to medium term. It's a slightly surprising choice considering all of his different BBC related work, which put him in the top 5 BBC presenter salaries back in 2017.

Longer term I can't see it being entirely practical to remain presenting his Radio 2 show, unless Channel 5 change the programme's start time of reduce it's length. 45 minutes doesn't leave a lot of time to leave one programme, travel, and prepare for the radio show. Jeremy seems to be absent fairly regularly from his radio show as it is, either due to holidays or filming episodes of Eggheads.

I imagine Vine will get time off to do Eggheads and Election coverage.

He’s a good if safe choice but I hope the show is able to mix the heavy topics with lighter topics.

So BBC Radio Two will need a fairly consistent stand in presenter, for that slot when Vine is in Glasgow or on holidays then. Anyone but Feltz.

They need someone used to presenting current affairs programming, fairly relaxed presenting style, and done some live radio speech/music work before.

Matthew Wright, anyone?

If that slot becomes free then there's so much pressure on having a female daytime presenter that it will either be Feltz, or Simon Mayo. The latter would mean that Radio 2 can give him his own show again and Jo Wiley' will tick the female box properly at drivetime

Luckily for him, he’s keeping his ties in with the BBC. It would be career dropping if be went solely with C5, the show seems a bit low rent for someone like Vine, but I’m sure Vine and ITN will make it a wee bit more classy.

I don't see how it is in the interests of the BBC for him to continue with such minimal prep time and obviously an editorial overlap with his new show that always take priority.

More likely Channel 5 will cut back the hours of the new morning show, possibly airing from 9.00am - 10.30am, giving Jeremy 90 minutes to get ready for his midday Radio 2 show.

It's not without prescient. Wogan (and Gabby Roslin) did an ill fated (Chris Evans produced) C5 morning show
about 10 years ago, ran from 10am weekday mornings, 30 mins after Wogan's radio prog ended. Although Wogan would have had less prep to do than Vine will for his R2 prog.

I'm sure that was 11am and Wogan made a career out of looking somewhat unprepared.

That was ‘The Terry and Gaby Show’ which had a 100 episode run on weekday mornings between 2003 and 2004, with The Wright Stuff beforehand. I don’t know the correct name, but it was filmed in the old GLC building opposite the Houses Of Parliament. Whilst the show was enjoyable you could tell that poor old Tel looked a bit of out of his depth there.

I used to watch TWS quite regularly (working more normal hours has put a stop to this) and I thought the jump to 2 hours was a bit of a stretch. Worked well enough when it was an hour and a bit. However ITN has a contract that needs to be fulfilled so I can’t see 2 hours dropping anytime soon.

Would they dare eat into the last 15 minutes of Milkshake...?
