I've heard from someone who works with the BBC in Bristol that Sally Challoner is no longer presenting the evening news. She's been taken off-air and is now a news editor behind the scenes. They also say that Amanda Pear has taken her place and is being prepared to take over from Susan Osman. Does anyone know if this is true? Is she being dropped too?
Well of course I'm not going to name them! But they work in the newsroom. Even if that's in doubt, when did you last see Sally? She used to do every friday, now every friday it's Amanda. Rumours aside. Do you think it's nonsense then? I hope it is.

Last two sentences...
So, you are now starting to doubt the credibillity of your source - or think they are just feeding you rubbish tittle-tattle.?
I wasn't asking you to confirm what I KNOW about Sally, I was asking you to add flesh to the rumours about Susan. Either way stop worrying about the semantics of my sentences and start listening. If the end of the line appears to be in sight for Susan Osman. Do you care or am I alone? That's what I'm trying to establish.
So, if you're so CERTAIN about this "information", you'll be telling us firstly, your proper name, rather than a random scan of a few keyboard keys; and, secondly, the name of this person in the Bristol newsroom who furnished you with this.
I TOO know people in the BBC Bristol newsroom and can categorically state that what you're saying is the first I've heard of this silly rumour.
I don't believe you know people there, I believe you WORK there. And from your tone, i'd put you in middle management desperate to plug a leak.
So needless to say I don't feel I need to tell you my name or the name of my source. With Radio, On-line, ceefax and TV it is a big old newsroom, so I'll leave you guessing.
Instead I'll leave you with what I know and won't furnish this open forum with any more inside news from the newsroom. But once your "more reliable" sources have confirmed it, perhaps you'll be a little less confrontational/defencive.
Both Sally Challenor and Amanda Parr produce (edit) as well as read the news. I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if Sally is moving towards producing rather than presenting. Points West has a lot of producers working various shifts, so it's not surprising that some of the on-air talent works off-screen too. AFAIK, Susan Osman doesn't ever produce Points West - she has a daily radio show to fit in as well!
As for Amanda, she is undoubtedly being prepared for a bigger role, but whether that's at Bristol or network, I don't know.
EDIT: Maurice Flynn is on the up at Points West too. He's been on screen a lot more often recently than he used to be. He's much more relaxed off screen too - his sense of humour doesn't really come across on TV.
From what I know Amanda isn't taking over from Susan. Whether or not you think that's a good idea or not, Susan is too popular with the viewers, I'd imagine.
Sally has left the presentation role and has taken on more production shifts.
