yes it is rather 80s kitchen, isn't. I swear that on one Breakfast News opt, the clock was broken... and I noticed that they had twisted the clock round so that the hands were pointing in the right direction for the time of day. The give away was that the faint red lines marking 12, 3, 6, 9 were pointing in the wrong direction.
It is Rose Neill. I guess you could describe her as the BIG MOIRA of Belfast. She started out as a Continuity Announcer at Ulster Television over 20 years ago, moving to the BBC as a news reader in the mid-80s. She was a main anchor for many years, but is now rather side lined in favour of so-called "proper journalists".
I think this is suitable for this thread...while we're on the subject of blasts from the pasts, would anybody be interested if I captured and uploaded video footage of a Christmas Day BBC News bulletin from 1995? I've just discovered the bulletin, read by Peter Sissons, on a dusty old tape! It's a complete bulletin (although the audio is a little dodgy) so I'd be more than happy to do the opening and closing sequences if anyone's interested.
Is it true that Rose isn't technically a journalist so can't do interviews - she can only read the news?
I recall the clock on Breakfast Time being the wrong way round for April Fool's Day one year.
Rose now does weekend summaries.
Was it not Wendy Austin who first did the Breakfast bulletins here in Northern Ireland?
As far as I am aware Rose does not have a qualification in journalism. However she has presented news for over 20 years, conducted many interviews and is by no means stupid. I would rather watch a news programme presented by Rose than many other journalists.
r.e. Wendy Austin, I think you are right. Who could forget those fantastic 1980s style specs? Must search for a pic.
