Confirmed by her publicist that she died yesterday (11 Feb).

In true TV Forum style, I feel I must discuss coverage.

BBC News seemed to announce it well before CNN and Sky News (unless the latter two mentioned it earlier). Saying that, BBC News have now gone to a recorded programme and they don't seem to have it anywhere on the ticker.

Sky announced it a moment after BBC. The BBC stuck with the story for a bit while sky continued with their headlines before coming back to it with Chloe Potter (I think!) on the phone discussing it.

Will be interesting to see if we see any senior presenters coming on over night. Quite a big story I'd say.

I doubt they will judge it as warranting senior presenters coming in. In reality there won't be very many developments to the story in the forthcoming hours. It's tragic, and shocking but it isn't on the scale of natural disasters and so on, I'm sure the overnight presenters will be able to cope with it.

Agreed. It doesn't merit senior presenters, but still a shocker.

Just switched on the TV - BBC on recorded programming, Sky interviewing pundits and getting reaction.

On a related note, who would make that decision? The editor/director (or whoever is in charge, I'm not sure) at the time?

The overnight producer and/or news editor, I'd guess. The director is a primarily technical, rather than editorial, role.

Rachel Hodges doing the overnight on BBC World from N9, and doing quite well handling the breaking news.

Piers Morgan is heading up the coverage over on CNN International with an extended edition of CNN Newsroom, with a lot of live links from the scene and elsewhere. First time I've actually seen Piers performing in a "newscasterish" way, if you know what I mean! As always, CNN overdoing the domestic-esque coverage of this death. Big American story.

Yes, the death of a foreign singer who hadn't had a hit here for over a decade and almost everyone had forgotten about really merits getting the black ties out and calling Dimbleby in Laughing

They did it for Michael Jackson; a foreign singer who hadnt had a hit here in over a decade. Perhaps some people had even forgotten about him!
