Why are white people never interviewed on the BBC anymore?

Trying to be rational....

Could it be that you're just noticing the reports where this perceived discrimination happens more than the many other reports where mostly white people are being interviewed?

You know the score, 200 white faces go unnoticed because these are the norm in everyday life, then report comes along with five non-white faces in a row and the neuron sparks in the brain.

My old gran used to do this all the time. Group of 5 or 6 Asian kids go past in town, all of a sudden it's an Asian invasion ("it's all black faces these days" etc etc). The 500 white kids she'd seen that day just didn't register. (And yes that is about the right proportion; I live in the North East where in fairness there are very few people of non-European descent living around here).

On a different note, I did find it amusing when there was that report about a police force sending round an inappropriate e-mail of a decapitated (black) man. That automatically became a race issue with a numpty from some relations organisation also saying it was - regardless of the fact there was a number of black officers reprimanded for passing it on as well.
The reporter on NewsWatch basically admitted they only ran it because the person in the e-mail was black (and therefore it may have been racist, by err... default?!) and wouldn't have done so if the person was white. So these things are taken into account.

If you are reporter on a story who's just interviewed three white middle ages men (and chances are you will have) then if you are doing a vox pop its a quick and lazy way to bump up the number of ethnic minorities/women in your report.
That's why the man on the street these days is a black woman (ideally!)

Yes person, yes person
Three containers packed to the required level

One for the government-appointed manager
One for the trans-sexual
And one for the young person who resides in a rural environment.

I think you'll find that "dames" are known as "female impersonators", and "transexuals" are actually "trangendered".

Fair point. But you get the general idea. I thought some humour was needed in a potentially antagonistic thread.

Anbody else want to attemp to "PC-ify" any nursery rhymes?

I don't care if the person on my TV screen is black, white, purple, green or yellow with pink spots. Or Russell Brand .

I also agree whole-heartedly with your more serious wider point (i.e. Like you, I don't give a **** about the skin-colour of the person on my TV screen at any given moment).

However, regarding Russell Brand... I'd rather tear my own arm off, and bludgen myself to death with it, than have Russell Brand on my TV screen. He's totally uncomedy, and should be generally not allowed in the whole world ever, IMHO.

Its called possitive descrimnation.

Which is why we don't get classic-sounding BBC announcers any more.

There's only one form on discrimination, and here it is at work.

My only worry is that television news channels are all getting rid of their black presenters, such as the enforced retirement of Trevor and the sidelining of Moira.

Soon, it will only be white faces reading the news on tv. I mean, what on earth is the world coming to??????? It's ridiculous. It's time the channels started having more ethnic minorities behind the anchor desk.

(sic - what a strange thread.....)

Probably because if they're interviewing people from Bradford, Bolton, London, Birmingham etc, you'd be hard pressed to find somebody white!

So you would sideline a perfectly good white presenter for a not as good black presenter then????

The enforced retirement of Sir Trevor!!! What a load of rubbish. The guy is 67 years old ffs - 2 years past the current United Kingdom male retirement age. Perhaps he doesn't want to continue with news at 10.30 until he drops off his perch.

I must say equally although off topic that although not a fan of itv news generally, I never really liked Sir Trev's presentation - Mark Austin is far better imo.
