What would SKY one do I hope they would just carry on show what is on at that day.

AFAIK, Sky One isn't a reactive channel. If this is correct, they wouldn't change their schedules

If anyone has an account to Digital Spy - would they care to leave a message on their board directing them here.....then again maybe not - you dont want an influx of ........... you know..........things

Interesting stuff indeed.

My thinking on these things is that TV is a completely different world today than it was when Princess Diana, even the Queen Mother died.

For example, people could be easily watching a programme on sky +, but even more, if a major announcement (such as the Queen) isn't announced for many years, then we could all be choosing what we want to watch, with TV on Demand.

How would they break news with TV on demand services?

If it's on demand can we decide when?

If she die why the world cup as on why England was playing whould the channel airing it stop the match.

But one thing the match could not be stoped. Or died somedsys befor a match and getting put to rest on a day England The march you still have to be on.

But airing on TV on the day she be put to rest what would they do showing match of not.

That's actually an interesting scenario and I wonder what has been agreed? One option would be to put a strap on BBC One directing viewers to BBC Two who would have the news but then they'd probably get it in the neck for deeming a football match more important than the death.

Saying that, I assume the plan would be to still fade out BBC Two as well, leaving no option but to leave the match.

"This is BBC Television News. Buckingham Palace has announced the death of Queen Elizabeth II. England's match continues now for digital viewers by pressing the red button." <cue National Anthem>

BBC or ITV will be damn if they do dam if they dont . Football fans would be mad at BBC/ITV for stop it. And Royal Family fans for not stoping football. But what about non football non Royal Family fans. They would not give a damn.

I don't think there would be any choice if it's the Queen - no matter what's on it'll come off as soon as the official embargo ends. Any people who would moan about the match being taken off, would effectively be ignored. It wouldn't be the a broadcaster's decision in this scenario - it's just the way it is.

I would imagine that would apply to Prince Charles and Prince William. For the other members, Phillip, Anne, Andrew and Edward... there would be a little more leeway... not much... they'd probably wait for the match to finish. That's not meant to be a flippant comment either, there's a strict struture of importance in these matter.

As for the form of the initial announcement, it would probably be along the lines of what we've seen before...

Arrow (BBC Generic Logo) Anncr: This is BBC Television from London
Arrow (fade to black)
Arrow (Newsreader appears) It is announced from Buckingham Palace that... has passed away
Arrow (fade to black)
Arrow (Royal Standard appears)
Arrow (National Anthem plays)
Arrow (fade to black)
Arrow (Newsreader appears and repeats previous statement...) Nicholas Witchell (or whoever) looks back over their life.

Presentation will be *very* formal and *very* stilted with frequent repetitions of the official statement, the obituary report and the National Anthem on the hour for at least 3 hours. After that the formalities will decrease as time goes on, but don't expect much scheduled programming for quite a while... probably longer than happened with Diana.

I'm really trying not to exaggerate with this, but if it were to be the Queen, you can expect nothing less to be honest.

Sky One did simulcast Sky News on 7/7 last year for a couple of hours.
