Tropical Storm Rita is moving across the Bahamas this morning, and is expected to reach hurricane strength later today. It is expected to cross the Florida Keys south of Miami late tomorrow; though there is a possibility that it may move further north to bring up to hurricane force winds to the Miami area.
WFOR-TV/DT, the CBS-owned affiliate in Miami is streaming their local news on a continuous basis via Windows Media Player at http://dayport.wm.llnwd.net/dayport_0025_live -- coverage goes dark during commercials. WFOR has a history of carrying the most comprehensive local coverage in South Florida, and their senior meterologist, Brian Norcross has been cited by many as being the best local forecaster when it comes to hurricane coverage for many years.
For those of you who do watch, The Florida Keys encompases Monroe County; the cities of Miami, Miami Beach and Homestead are in Miami-Dade County. Fort Lauderdale is to the north of Miami in Broward County. I can direct you to a map if you'd like a better picture of where things are there.
