Final programme this Friday

Is the 10th of February the standard date for all west regional presenters to leave - happens to be the same date Susan Osman left BBC Points West!

Whilst we're on the subject of rats and ships, I note that Steve Scott's going to be doing the 18:00 ITV West news Monday to Thursday, whilst still keeping his slot on the 18:30 national on Fridays.

The words "barrel" and "scraping" come to mind this time round.

Its some sort of relief to me, anymore of the Evelyn , Knights partnership or cheekie chappie Mark Owen from t'lancashire and i'd start harming myself.

It really is a sign of the sad way ITV news finds itself nowadays that someone like Steve Scott returns back to the west news ( but more of that on another thread later).

No sign of Lyddo yet , i keep scanning the shopping and gambling channels but he hasnt turned up anywhere so far.

It is a shame that national presenters are having to go local to keep their jobs. However, I must say that ITV West will now have two excellent presenters fronting their regional show. National ITV man Steve Scott and former Sky News host Lisa Aziz. Compare that with somewhere like Central News East where two non-entities who clearly can't stand each other and can't even read autocue are forced on to the poor East Midlanders! (If you look somewhere like TV Ark you'll notice the old Central News East even used to say in it's opening titles that it was the East Midlands number one - not any more)

Title sequence question...

The last ever "HTV News" branded title sequence featured Stonehenge.

During the ITV generic look (mark 1) era, ITV West News' title sequence did not feature Stonehenge - but Meridian (South) did !!!

Now, Meridian (South) no longer features Stonehenge, but ITV West does once again!

So, which bloody region is Stonehenge really in??? Rolling Eyes

Meridian (South), definitely.

The nearest transmitter to Stonehenge is Shrewton, which is a relay of Rowridge.

Next west from Shrewton is Chitterne, which is the station formally known as.

Next north from Shrewton is Lavington, also station formally known as.

So Stonehenge is definitely Meridian, but it IS right on the edge.

Thanks for that, Nick. Smile

Instead of having the Clifton Suspension Bridge on the plasma screen on friday, they are going to be presenting live from bridge to mark the Brunel celebrations.

So, I suppose we have at least half a hope that they'll both fall off and sink into the drink for ever.

I still won't bother watching, however. I think it's the bloke in Chard who's the duty viewer on Friday.

Well I've seen Meridian north reporting about Stonehenge recently, summat about a tunnel under that road either side of it. But then again their news patch is only about 50 square yards so they probably ran out of things to talk about.

I think I have mentioned to you before Mr Harvey that Meridian south seems to be rather welcoming to Wiltshire.

No it's me again ......

I think i might even tape this as I feel there's a strong chance of technical problems and the winds going to be gusting to about 40 mph in the gorge. They're asking for trouble.

The old HTV and PW always covered Stonehenge every summer especially after the Battle of the Bean Field and the Wiltshire Police atrocities against the travellers. It's a regular fixture now, Rachel Royce and some other hippies watching the sunrise and hanging out by the stones.

Actually there's a good point...

Having established that Stonehenge is definately in the Meridian area, not ITV West, which Meridian sub-region has the better claim to Stonehenge?

Yes, it features in the "south" titles, but does "west" (a.k.a. north) actually have the better claim?

Actually, in terms of counties (whole- or part-), what IS the "official" Meridian (west/north) patch??? Clearly Berkshire (ALL of???), right? But what else?
