Just then on points west a report at the end about the death of a man called guy quinn who used to present the show. Chris reported it in a nice low, sad tone. When it ended Chris wished the family the best, while alex was nodding with a smile on her face. At least Chris changed his tone. She just smiled.

Gwyn Richards I think, but otherwise you are absolutely right. It is quite astonishing that a news programme is presented by a woman with no journalistic credentials who spends most of her time looking like a tart on a very low-brow quiz programme.

thanks, wronge name. She does do another programme for channel 5 that is low-brow and apparently she is good at that. Why let someone like that present the news. If i was his family now i would be most upset if i was looking at her. Senceless presenter.

I think it was David Garmston, not Chris Vacher with the "delightful...." Alex tonight.

That's very sad. Gwyn was a mainstay of the programme - along with John Norman - back in the 1970s and was a most personable presenter. He also did several very good series of "Day Out" which was memorable not only for taking us to places like Taunton and Wooton-under-Edge, but also for the theme music taken from Mozart's clarinet concerto.

Thats bringing back some nice memories of Points West and BBC West back in better days.

The last thing I remember Gwyn Richards in was a paranormal investigation in the style of Most Haunted back in the 90's with a haunted bomber plane at an airbase.

Sad to hear of his passing , he seemed a very nice genuine person.

I'm not sure I remember Gwyn. I do remember Graham Purchase who defected to HTV Snooze. And who was that rather camp blonde haired guy who did a lot of the daytime PW's during the late 80's and early 90's.

There's was also a big lass with long ginger hair, Bev I think.

Could have been Pete Baker, but by 1989 he was doing breakfast on Picadilly Radio's FM service - sorry, can't remember what it was called.

Are you sure you're not thinking of Peter Rowell on HTV? He was famous for making comments regarding the late Diana, Princess of Wales when he didn't know his mic was live Very Happy

Regarding the gorgeous, pouting Ms.Lovell on Points West I understand that the suits at Whiteladies Road are very aware of the criticisms but they plough on regardless, presumably in the hope that she'll find gravitas from somewhere or that we'll just accept it and shut-up while new viewers are attracted by her looks

She's a reasonable presenter and I'm sure a delightful person but best kept away from news or anything that requires weight.

Probably did something stupid like giving her a 5 year contract and so they have no option.

Which is why she's perfect for Points West! Laughing

You are obviously observing the service closely so could you please help us out by telling us of the heavyweight stories in the West that they missed this week or topics that you feel they should be covering or do you just have a thing against regional news?

I realise that comment was directed at somebody else, but as someone who watches Spotlight instead, because Points West is so dreadful, I'd start by asking why not adopt the principle that all press releases are a pack of lies and need to be seriously questioned?

Some will turn out, on questioning, to be correct. Most will be exposed as the complete trash and lies that they are.

Either way, the programme will come over as being a lot more serious and much less the unquestioning mouthpiece of anyone who cares to put pen to paper and send in a press release.

Just take a few days off and watch Spotlight a few times. They treat press releases like a pit-bull treats a bone. At the end of the interview you get the feeling they've forced their way to the truth.

An interview on Points West leaves you with the feeling that the interviewee was invited in for a good time at a party with jelly and custard.

Confirm here that you've put that principle in place and I'll watch for a week and then let you know of the stories I think you've missed.

Can't say fairer than that.
