It looks to me like the polar ice caps all though I'm sure it will be a distorted cloud. Either way I'm not particularly fond of it.

Lets hope this isn't a sign of what the new look clouds on the actual weather maps will look like.

I've only seen a few screen grabs of the new stuff but from what I've seen the new clouds certainly don't look like that. These graphics are different from what you're used to and I'm sure some people will hate them just for that reason but I know the team behind them are hoping you will grow to like them.

Umm. I actually grown to quite like the current set, although as long as the new package serves to purpose then I'm sure they'll grow on me...

Yes, well you've had around 30 years to get used to the current ones. No matter what the change was, people would be complaining, and these are radically different to what people are used to.

Ergh... yellow? Actually, the BBCi maps have turned yellow recently. Didn't News 24/BBC World have yellow maps during the flags era?

That does look like Helen Young, doesn't it?

Having the day/time graphics to the right leaves plenty of room for the N24 tower, which is handy. Sadly the only bit I don't like about those graphics are the day/time boxes.

Apart from the crap caps lol. The actual graphics added to the maps makes it look much older and out of date. But the actual maps themselves look like the weather maps of that seen on 3 news' weather here in new zealand. Which lok quite good.

They have occasionaly taken to using it on News 24. Basically starting at scotland and moving down. Like the Daytime Summery, but you can tell its much more 3D, very much so around scotland.

From these shots I don't particularly like the date/time box at the bottom of the screen - i'm not sure what it will look like on a TV screen, but it seems too bold to me.

Also,I've noticed that Gill Sans doesn't seem to be used on this new set of graphics - first made redundant from BBC 1, then BBC News, and now BBC Weather...

From what youve said im pretty sure its exactly the same map graphics as 3 news here in nz. Ours looks similar and shows really good hovers over regions and can do a great fly buy over new zealan with animated weather symbols

Where did those caps actually come from, and why could they be a clue to the new look?

They are displayed on tv screens at Television Centre, it's the weather presenters rehearsing with the new graphics I guess.. I've seen an entire forecast and I have never seen a temperature map or any weather symbols, just what you see above. In fact I cant remember any pressure maps either.

It's good to see the weather patterns seem quite clear on those caps though, relieved they haven't fallen into the Sky News indistinct blur-style rain trap.
