Francis Wilson, yes.

The Weather, in association with Qatar Airways, your five-star airline.

"Well hi, there." 10 minutes go by.

"The uh, errm... the northern side..... of the country....... is a bit..... cloudy.... through the rest of the day."

Qatar Airways, your five-star airline.

That combined with their weather package being the most hideous copycat I've ever seen.
That's not an accurate summary of a Francis forecast. I don't think I've ever heard him start or end a forecast: he just launches straight into it without so much of a 'hello'.

Francis is great! He sounds a bit like a drunk uncle, i do not mind him at all!

In the summer whilst on holiday in Cypress the apartment we stayed in was tuned into Sky News 24/7, I watched it for the first time then and had to say i enjoyed the forecasts from Francis!

However on one occaision they were doing the destination report thing that they do through the summer, the sting played without sound and there was an audible crash and you could quite clearly hear Francis had tripped and fallen over (He said ouch or something to the effect several times) but like a true pro he did the report out of vision whilst presumably still on the floor, and made some comment at the end about having had a few for dinner! Great guy!

I also don't really think you can call Sky's weather forecasts a copycat of anyones, they have been using the same sort of thing for years now which BBC "copied" off them (if you're going to be like that!). Only difference now is it does a 3D flyover, but the concept remains the same as it's been for years.

Well truth be told I only watched Sky News properly last week - and the weather graphics flyover or not have been hashed to death.

My memories of the early to mid 80s were relatively vague, but I always used to think Francis Wilson was quite good as a forecaster on BBC Breakfast Time, but nowadays seeing him on Sky News, he seems awful. Have his standards slipped over the years or have I just become more critical?

Incidentally, has anyone noticed his tendency just to point out random bits on the map with no reason? "Scandanavia there..."

Reports in Private Eye seem to suggest that he's just enjoying his lunches more these days.

Francis Wilson... maybe he just needs to wear his colourful knitted jumpers again. Laughing

He always pauses in the wrong areas of the sentance...
"Through tomorrow.......cloud over Scotland.....making its way past the north through most of the.....day a few outbreaks.......of rain......scattered. Showers will prolong across the south east we'll see......sunshine."

Can't stand Francis Wilson - he comes across as being like the smarmy, embarassing uncle at a family party. Give me Dan Corbett any day!

Francis is brilliant! Yes, he does seem to have got more eccentric as time has gone on, but that's all part of the fun.

I love it when he just reels off a long list of possible weather conditions: "Hail, snow, sleet, fog, sunshine, showers"

Gaffe on the Six tonight from Natasha Kaplinsky:

"And now the Sports News with Daniel Corbett."

Dan covered it nicely, "yes, the weather ..."

Yes, I saw that Kaplinsky gaffe! Very smoothly done by Dan I think.

Dan then went on to do the weather forecast using only one very slow-moving graphic, for tomorrow. He didn't have any graphics at all for tonight, or for Wednesday or Thursday which he mentioned - I'm assuming there must have been some sort of problem with the graphics, but it was very well covered by Dan.
