I first saw the lighting graphic on Monday's weather forecast durin Breakfast. All it was then was a brief flash on the main map (not zoomed in). I do think it would be good if there were sound effects but I somehow don't think the BBC will adapt to something like that.

Why's it yellow, not white!!!? It'd be cool if they did sound effects too - as you zoom past and area with heavy rain they could do some rain effects, if lightning do a rumble of thunder too.

The lightning on the old symbols was changed to blue (which is fair enough, lightning tends to appear blue). It is of course yellow on the new maps because it's generally overlaid on blue blobs of rain.
The fog symbol hasn't been seen despite days of thick fog here at the beginning of the week.

Is it me or does this image from the BBC Weather site look quite different to the actual graphics? It seems to be more textured version... I suppose it might just be the quality of the image or something but there is definitely something different about it. I'm wondering if it was an earlier version, which was deemed too detailed to be able to easily differentiate between cloud and sunny patches?

It does look different yes. I'm still finding it hard to differentiate between the cloud/sun/fog/lighting anyway! I now look at the Met Office weather on-line more than I bother to study the BBC graphics now - another reason not to watch BBC1!

I notice Philip Avery has returned after going on that sailing event for between six months and a year. It's nice to see him back as I think he is quite a good weather presenter. I also thought he coped well with the graphics to say that this (9.15 on SundayAM) must have been one of his first times with the new graphics if not the first.

No, he's been on a few weeks now. Mostly on the morning/one shift.
