There's this myth that 'progress' means that everything new is better than what the old fogies used to 'force' on us.
In fact, in some cases the way things used to be done were done that way for a reason, and for better reasons than the reasons things are done now, in the way they are done now.
OK, so we shouldn't be stuck with hand-drawn 1950s maps, or magnetic 1970s maps, but I'm sure if the people in charge of them had access to the technology we have now, they would have made more considered and wise use of it than those in charge of it now.
