My god, why has the land turned brown?

Compared to the old graphics, this looks quite drab and gloomy to me.

I hope I will grow to like it...I may just have to accept that change would have occurred anyway eventually, even if most of Britain thinks this is a step backward - like the rest of BBC's presentation, IMO. Where's Doctor Who when you need him? I want my 90's back.

To put it simply, it looks to me the BBC have not played very much with this new package and its a direct New Zealandised format. Or wherever it came from. The fonts are awful, the landmass is dreary and very nauseating when going across from region to region.

Still, give it time... I might warm to it.

I'd say they have actually customised Weatherscape quite a lot, going by these caps from Metra's web site (the NZ company who created Weatherscape).

Just look... Green land, wind arrows (that don't look like a whole army), isobars, pressure and weather fronts!

Well Weatherview was a bit of a disapointment just now on BBC1, just a regular forecast, no Europe weather or atlantic weather or any wind, temperature changes, nothing just charts for the next few days.

I wouldnt mind the the new graphics if they were still accompanied by options such as decent pressure maps, fronts, how about radar? Will they show how the weather will warm up with a temperature chart like they did from time to time before? How will weather or flood warnings be accomodated? Will thunder charts still appear?

it's such a let down, its basically like having the previous graphics system but only with the weather summary for the days ahead (those charts that had temperature and symbols on one) and nothing else.

Dispite the fact that the Midlands isn't represented on the map - no locator, no temperature - I actually quite like it. The symbols were a very vauge representation of what the weather was going to do. At least with the new fly-bys you can see the track of the cloud and showers.

I wouldn't change the land colour from brown to green. Brown shows up the darker patches for cloud a lot better than green does.

I would make two small changes though.
1. Move the day and time caption to the top right of the map.
2. For the idiots who are clambering for the old childish symbols to be brought back, I'd have those on screen for around 5 seconds at the end of the forecast by way of a summary.

I feel sorry for the Shetland Islands!

Do they fare much better on Reporting Scotland's rendition of the new weather graphics? (Any captures?)

Saw the new graphics on World last night. Have to say, I wasn't immediately impressed. However, like all things, I am pragmatic enough to say that they will probably grow on us, just as the new set and the various other changes have done (or are doing....)

By the way, where is John Kettley these days???? Do you guys still have him there on BBC1?

He is Radio Five Live's weather specialist. He hasn't done TV forecasts for some years.

The Times had a good poke at them this morning....

On a regional note here, Didn't Shefia (Midlands Today) really look lost. She really did look confused and kept checking then looking off screen, there was no summary and what happened to the weather update before 7? Has it gone?

I've been asking people around the office and around town today in a straw poll and it went down like a lead ballon. Personally I quite like the flying. I can't for the love of me understand why Britians brown; it looks awful.

I shall be interested to see what happens in the next few days from the BBC Weather Centre.
