At least you don't live in Lerwick - I think the BBC forgot about the people on the Shetland Isles when they implemented the new system!
Yup, not sure if it's restricted airspace or something, but the camera doesn't seem to want to 'fly' anywhere north of Newcastle on the national forecasts. Lunchtime Reporting Scotland was better than it's been before on the forecast front, and I'm sure Heather's Weather at 6.55pm will zoom around the Highlands and Islands a bit.
I'm waiting to see how the 'fly-by' works in a thick pea-souper autumnal fog.
Otherwise - it's not too bad for amateurs but those who have a semblance of Geography will miss the isobars and synoptic charts badly. I recon from O level Geography a quick view of a synotic chart and I've forecast the weather for the next couple of day's reasonably well.
Whilst I like the new look overall look I wish the would still use the old weather symbols. At 7:15am in the morning when you are slightly tired and getting ready for work it is hard to quickly work out what the weather is like (ie. sunny or cloudy).
The only thing I've liked so far is the slightly smoother movement and a very nice mix before 17.00 where 20 seconds of the countdown faded up behind the weather and went into the graphics right on the drums.
Other than that I find them badly antialiased, dull looking, the location bar is rubbish, everything north of the south coast is inivisable due to the appauling persepctive and all this zooming around the country is pointless as you miss where you are by the time you realise where you are.
I agree with many of the points you've all been making - this system was supposed to present the weather in a clearer way, but all I can see now on BBC Weather bulletins is an awkwardly angled map of the UK, a concoction of massive wind symbols that garishly cover the whole screen, a wall of blue with some fake raindrops added in that seems to engulf the country (Sally Taylor even said on Friday's South Today that it looks like a flood, not a light shower when the rain graphics appear!) and the really annoying square temperatures that seem to flash onto the screen from no where. Also, why have the BBC included a time and day bar that looks disgusting and doesn't match the rest of the colour scheme - light blue and white and stuck some red in there? I hope that there are a few alterations soon after all the negative comments that the BBC have been receiving today....
P.S Has anyone got any shots of how the weather is now shown on the BBC Daytime News bulletins - is it just a single shot of the angled UK?
Well David Braine on Spotlight crammed a lot in - even a Scilly map. Worked rather well and an isobar / pressure chart too. My judgement is postponed for a while.
