Five day forecasts are going to be displayed vertically rather than horizontally as they are now. I think there's a capture of how that will look earlier in this thread.

I do think replacing cloud with a 'darker brown' is a tad illogical, when they're telling us about how this is the sort of weather we see outside. .

There are clouds on the wider shot (i.e. when they show the atlantic or mainland europe). Making the land darker when there's cloud is logical... when it's cloudy, it does get darker outside

Hmm, I still think it would be better if they kept elements of the current style. The blue bar along the bottom etc The "day" in the rounded rectangle just looks rubbish and really won't fit with the rest of the BBC News Graphics, I say that because the Weather is pretty much always with the news. Rain, looks like everywhere is flooding to me. They seem to think "animating" = better. Somehow I dont think thats right.

South Today actually used the graphics and basically did the weather twice. I'm not sure if from what I've seen they're that nessassary.

Looking at the second last image, is there enough space now to fit in four days' weather summary? The first day's forecast appears to be blocked by the presenter.

From the rehearsals I've watched... the answer is NO. The presenter had to move screen right to reveal the first day's weather.

Also... on the subject of the weather summary... a sunny day is represented by the square being blue (i.e. Blue Sky)... but on the map, a blob of blue represents rain.

At least with the "old fashioned" symbols, what they symbolised remained consistent throughout the forecast.

Well perhaps if the clouds and the colours were like that it would be....

From all the clips and examples I've seen so far, I honestly find it very confusing. I think I may be relying more on radio forecasts from now on.

However, the optimist in me (such as there is one) says that if this new system were really that bad, there would have been enough forecasters within the BBC kicking up a fuss to get it thrown out. Although they are all trained meteorologists, so maybe they find these maps easier to understand than 'normal' people like us.

From those screenshots, I don't see why they couldn't have fitted the old symbols into the new forecasts. It looks like there's plenty of space to squeeze a few symbols in as well. Even if it were just the cloud/cloud with sun symbols so we could tell exactly what kind of cloud we'll be getting.

Anyone who has a low picture quality television won't be able to tell the difference. I watched this morning's report on Breakfast and was straining my eyes to see if one area was slightly darker than another. I ask why change something if its not broke and this is the sort of weather I didn't want. With the flyover you have to make sure you pay attention not to miss the area and I don't understand why do we have to see rain pouring down? Aren't two (or three) large raindrops simple enough?
I'm not looking forward to seeing them in full use - they're too Sky like (complicated) A change for the worse I say.

Will the final forecast be at 05.57 on Monday?

I don't know why, but that globe sort of reminds me of this

From MHP

Maybe it's because of the slightly glassy look to it?

If they're going to use that graphic to start every forecast, then I suppose we could say that the globe has come back to BBC ONE!

And that's another thing we've lost. The first slide has always had an appropriate picture to it, be it umbrellas, leaves, the snowplough etc. Now there's just a generic globe.

But it you take a peek at the metra site you'll see there's at least one other blob with raindrops all over it!
