Unless I'm mistaken all graphics are simulated. I've never met a real one.

Feature on BBC Newsline here in Northern Ireland about graphics changing - there was just a very brief oblique view of Angie Phillips' new graphics tonight on Newsline - you could just see Co. Donegal and what seemed to be squares on the map. Announcement made that there would be more about the changes tomorrow on the programme. We shall see.

North West Tonight ran a similair feature, looking back at its ten years of an on-screen weather presenter (who still presents at NWT to this day!) and an interview with the creator of the current weather map symbols. More on the new graphics tomorrow.

Also treated to a clip of Phillip Hayton reading the weather on NWT back in 1994!

is it really newsworthy to have this much on the fact that the bbc is getting new weather graphics.. I may be interested as an insider but as a viewer I don't really give a hoot..

If you're not interested, why comment. Some of us here are interested in TV presentation and, forgive me if I'm wrong, weather presentation falls under this category. Just stick to working out how to post properly.

To my mind an introduction is quite necessary, as they're changing something that a whole generation (and a bit) are used to seeing presented in a certain way.

Sure, it's not a huge leap of understanding, but the audience should definitely be warned of the change and this seems like the best way to me. Besides, since when has local news had anything more interesting? Wink My particular favourite from Look North was a bird that ate a cat's food. The controversy! Ho ho! *Slaps knee*

Yep, I've a feeling in my bones that if people want to see the new graphics, they should watch tonight's Newsline. Wink

On the Hull version of Look North it will probably amount to Paul telling us about the new graphics for about 2 seconds before Peter Levy starts yawning and asking if any viewers are still watching.
