I don't know where those caps are from, but I don't think they have anything to do with the new package.

The caps were photos I took from feeds of the weather studios displayed freely in television centre, it looks like each presenter does a weather forecast with the current graphics and then switches to the graphics i've posted and does the same forecast but with those, it must be rehearsals for the new graphics, and they are likely to be the final version as they are to be launched very soon.

Here are 2 video clips I managed to record on my phone (no sound):

weather clip 1

weather clip 2

Clip 2 looks more like what we've been hearing about and looks more 'finished' than anything we've seen before- you clearly see the flyover over the country.

Gotta say though- I don't think it's very clear at all.

Will wait for the full launch though.

I'm not sure about that, but I suppose it depends what they're saying at the same time. The forecaster will talk about the temperature variations across the country, that's shown with just more flair than usual. Then you have a mention of what the onset of a system is going to be (down in cornwall/devon there) and the larger context of it, here it's a zoom-out to reveal the whole thing.

At the moment they just gesture. In a way it gives the viewer less credit to work out where they're talking about. Having said that, I don't think it brings much more to the forecast. Just makes it a little more watchable.

Which of course doesn't necessarily mean you should be leaking them out onto the internet!

Should I remove them?

They are low quality, clips are without sound and short. Although television centre is a closed working building, the area where the clips are shown is along open corridors and members of the public on numerous tv centre tours each day go past and look at the screens, so you can argue loads of members of the public have already seen it freely, although I suppose they wouldnt realise what it is... what do people think?

You're not meant to use 'normal' mobile phones (I assume you captured these on a phone) in TV Centre. Nor are you allowed to record or photograph anything inside, other than in the Interactive area.

Yes I have to agree with you there James, New Zealands package, from the breif slice I saw looked excellent! Much more modern.

I actually think from the caps provided that the new package looks very "Old School" Although I'll reserve judgement until the full broadcast.

On another note would I be right in presuming that the the new package now uses two fonts? Theres the Ariel look for the date/place and time yet by the looks there appears to be the Gills Sans one on the summary "Wet and windy"

Joel.

They're all right but does the summary text have to be so large on clip 2? To me it shouts out 'WET AND WINDY!' as if we can't hear what the forecaster is saying or read a samller font size summary which informs not bellows. I'm personally not too fond of the flyover map as some areas are missed off and currently whilst the forecaster is explaining what's happening elsewhere you can have a look at what's happening in your area whereas now you don't get to see your area, you see the area the forecaster is talking about.
Oh well, I guess we'll just have to see how it shapes out. Does anyone know when the first new look forecast will be shown?

The current graphics were introduced in Breakfast (in fact, on the first ever Breakfast). I'd imagine they will be introduced then.

Well if those clips are even fairly representative then it looks terrible.

Apart from the fact anywhere north of Carlisle is pretty much only assumed to exist [since the angle is so tight you can't see what the weather is doing up there], it also distances any viewer who doesn't live on the south coast.

You also seem to have to watch for the whole bulletin to see when [or if] the camera goes over where you live, instead of all of the UK being shown at once.

S4C and GMTV have been using a similar style for a while [though I daresay less flashy] and it's all very selective and misleading, and hard to work out where the weather is actually happening.

The BBC Weather site has an update on the new graphics "coming soon".

Clicky Here

Looks like the advertising push will be "clearer weather from the BBC"

I'm still sceptical- but let's wait and see the final product.
