I don't like the new studio at all. What's the point of those out-of-place blue blocks? Why has the backdrop of Cardiff bay been made smaller (whereas it should have been made bigger!), and why is the background now pink instead of that nice dark red we had before?

The new studio is far too OTT and it looks like a beauty salon. Why on earth do the nations and regions have to be similar to the national news? It was far better pre-1999 when everyone did their own thing! Rolling Eyes

Oh, and why isn't there a new dragon on the screens in the studio? The studio and titles were obviously both designed by some ***** in south-east England! Rolling Eyes

Compare old and new...

EDIT: I hope that Wales Today's revamp will make ITV Wales News hurry the hell up and get the London Tonight style set at long last...(?)

All ITV Wales seem to do each revamp is move the desk around. I imagine eventually they'll get the generic regional set - but I hope they keep the big screen at the side rather than behind the sofas (though I think a traditional desk is better for ITV Wales) as it can be used for more effectively there.

An interesting concept comes out of the Newyddion design being so closely linked to BBC News. How would Newyddion look if it was made by ITV Wales? One for the mock designs forum I think!

I don't think the sofa look would suit ITV Wales News - I can't imagine Jonathan and Lucy sitting on a sofa. But I mentioned a while back, that for some regions, the generic ITV regional set could be introduced, and in place of the sofas, just have a desk like the national one, but smaller. I think that would look quite good. I just couldn't imagine the sofa look on ITV Wales, Border, Tynetees, STV or Grampian.

Nice to see the flare of originality shine upon BBC Wales Today. The music, graphics and titles are so inspiring, original and imaginative.
Oh yeah sorry, there took the fire extingusher to that!

Well at least Newsline have the only true distinctive titles and set now.

I think the new look studio is an overall improvement but on the closer shot showing the presenter, a shot of cardiff bay in the background and some blue boxes each side of the screen could also convince me that i'm watching ITV rather than a BBC news bulletin!

But it is nice to see some derivation away from wood and red by introducing some other coloured blocks.

Tonight's programme seemed to be dogged by technical problems which I suppose shouldn't occur after a lick of paint in the studio! If a brand news technical studio had also been fitted then there might be some excuse for the number of cock-ups! It was great seeing Derek walk right in front of the camera for the closing shot!

Whoever designed the BBC News graphics back in December '03 finally seems to have got the hang of them. Newyddion now has the first version of the swirly black and red ribbons that (imo) actually looks good. It's unfortunate that it will only be seen in Wales.

Technical cock-ups can happen at any time, not just when programmes relaunch themselves! Rolling Eyes

I think the new one looks better. I like both, but the first is very 99 - 02's. This one is much "today" and I like the animated image on the screen.

I dont agree, I think Wales Today have quite distinctive titles now, and the set does take cues from other BBC News sets but that is no bad thing.

Newsline do break away a bit more I guess, I did think that Newsline had the best set and I think that Midlands Today ran close with its simplicity and very spaced out set, but now, IMO, I reckon Wales Today has the best set, it looks so fresh the colours go well and there are no nasty surprises, like East Midlands Today homage to a Laundrette, and Look East's Illuminted Mushroom as well as Reporting Scotlands faker than fake newsroom backdrop not forgetting Look North Leeds red and purple courtroom!!
Well done Wales Today a clean and tidy effort.
what can we expect from Look North Newcastle?

Oh, some of these new members really are wonderful.

Ten out of ten for entertainment value.

You really haven't a clue to whom you are replying, have you?

Just a word in your ear, dear; yes, he will know the EXACT meaning of the word before he uses it.
