I hope Wales Today keeps the dragon. It was lucky to be used in the 1999 revamp, and is missing from the main titles.

Also, dump the pips and synth music. Get the BBC Wales Orchestra to come up with something suitably dramatic and uplifting. Even better if they can record it at the new Millennium centre with it's fantastic accoustics! Wink

Mind you correct me if I'm wrong [and I may v well be], but aren't you from somewhere like Wrexham? I wouldn't imagine people from that area have a particularly heightened perception of what Wales as a whole requires from public television.[/quote]

Sorry Ddraig, but having scanned through this topic, I have to disagree with your above quote. Apologies if I've read /taken the quote the wrong way. Normally I agree with everything you state about Welsh boadcasting Smile

One of the biggest "boils on the bum" for HTV/BBC Wales and S4C was the fact that most of the north east of Wales watched tv from either Winter Hill or the Wrekin transmitters. For the non tv "anorak"(and I use the term anorak in the nicest way), that was the norm, despite a lot of Welsh speaking areas such as Llangollen, Rhosllannerchrugog and surrounding areas, wanting to watch the Welsh programmes, they were unable to do so, due to terrain or due to the lack of good reception.

The point I am making (I'm getting there slowly), is that since the availability of BBC Wales and HTV(especially) through SKY (as thier aerials are pointing towards the English transmitters), from my experience through work colleagues and friends they are so glad that they are able to recieve the Welsh channels. Initially they complained that it was south Wales orientated, however the more they watched, the more they realised that HTV/BBC Wales covered more items for them than Granada, and especially BBC NW, ever did.

To cut a long story short, as I'm just confusing things the more I type, basically a lot of people in the north east of Wales (i.e Wrexham area) are glad that they can finally watch programmes from HTV/BBC Wales that cater for their needs eventhough it's taken nearly 40 years for this to happen. However there will still be some, more so, the ones that move into the area from the Cheshire/Lancashire side who will cpmplain that they can no longer get Granada/BBC NW, despite being only an hours drive from Mnchester.

Ooo hello there. Hope you'll be back to read this before christmas, I know you're a bit of a catch me when you can poster.

I think you have taken the quote the wrong way -- I agree with what you wrote about the reception/preference etc of the northeast, and also the point about English influx keeping the attachment to Winter Hill etc. I notice also shops in the northeast waste much space putting both regions of tv magazines on the shelves.

Mind you it's not just news -- Welsh stations on 101-102-104 will give football and rugby matches absent on English tv.

I wasn't really on about that, I was just having a go at Moz for his bizarre opinions on what Wales is/wants. I remember him also whinging that the Welsh news never covers the north -- which is also nonsense, they're never out of the place.

Anyway, I'm certain you too simply can't wait for the new WT dragons. We've never had a new look Welsh news programme on this forum -- it's all just far too exciting for words.
