Mind you correct me if I'm wrong [and I may v well be], but aren't you from somewhere like Wrexham? I wouldn't imagine people from that area have a particularly heightened perception of what Wales as a whole requires from public television.[/quote]
Sorry Ddraig, but having scanned through this topic, I have to disagree with your above quote. Apologies if I've read /taken the quote the wrong way. Normally I agree with everything you state about Welsh boadcasting
One of the biggest "boils on the bum" for HTV/BBC Wales and S4C was the fact that most of the north east of Wales watched tv from either Winter Hill or the Wrekin transmitters. For the non tv "anorak"(and I use the term anorak in the nicest way), that was the norm, despite a lot of Welsh speaking areas such as Llangollen, Rhosllannerchrugog and surrounding areas, wanting to watch the Welsh programmes, they were unable to do so, due to terrain or due to the lack of good reception.
The point I am making (I'm getting there slowly), is that since the availability of BBC Wales and HTV(especially) through SKY (as thier aerials are pointing towards the English transmitters), from my experience through work colleagues and friends they are so glad that they are able to recieve the Welsh channels. Initially they complained that it was south Wales orientated, however the more they watched, the more they realised that HTV/BBC Wales covered more items for them than Granada, and especially BBC NW, ever did.
To cut a long story short, as I'm just confusing things the more I type, basically a lot of people in the north east of Wales (i.e Wrexham area) are glad that they can finally watch programmes from HTV/BBC Wales that cater for their needs eventhough it's taken nearly 40 years for this to happen. However there will still be some, more so, the ones that move into the area from the Cheshire/Lancashire side who will cpmplain that they can no longer get Granada/BBC NW, despite being only an hours drive from Mnchester.
