Well I don't honestly think that style would be right for Wales as it might be in England.
Mind you some new titles are called for and a spaceship desk for Sara, and some new dragons.
And what's with the nasty cream bonquette now? They don't even subject the Welsh news to this thing.

Who is actually the main presenter of Wales Today - is it Jamie Owen or Sara Edwards ?

I got back to Wales yesterday for the annual Xmas thing with family and sat down to watch the Six inc Wales Today. It seems to me that BBC Wales needs a new sound engineer.
The sound levels between between London and Cardiff iare hugely different to the point that I almost turned it the sound down a little. The thunderclaps and head bed generated from wales during the headline sequence were sooooo much louder than those coming from London, and Sara Edwards' voice levels were way higher than either George or Sophies. It sounded messy!!! Surely for the sake of continuity, someone could at least make an effort. We never hear such things in the LDN region.
Also, that set has to go! Too outdated now in comparison to the rest of the country and indeed BBC News in general.

Well yes I've noticed this before and I know nothing. Plus you have Derek seemingly jumping down the stairs while the national news is recapped -- all so he can wave at us from the desk.
As for why I don't think the LDN stuff would suit, it just feels too urgent and metropolitan, and that doesn't suit the news in Wales. WT remains a fairly formal programme too, and grinning people eating a pie in Porthcawl on the titles doesn't fit either.
Apart from it having to match several other programmes [as well as the other nations], you now have to find five scenes to sum up Wales in the titles -- and you know how those in the north love to have a good whinge about these things.

Surely it wouldn't cost too much to re-edit Newsline's titles for Wales and Scotland. I think they're very professional and smart looking, and would fit well. The only problem is they make the national news titles look a bit cheapo in comparison.

I personally believe that there's nothing wrong with Wales Today as it is. It has a fantastic team, and always has done. It's editorially superb, well produced, excellently executed all round.
The set is over 5 years old now (launched in the first week of October 1999). The music is slightly irritating, but to be honest, Wales Today needs nothing more than a new set and some new titles.
LDN type titles for Wales Today wouldn't suit at all. In response to the above comment about there being no difference between Wales and England, I would like to disagree in the strongest possible way.
The people of Wales and the culture is incredibly different to England, and that's reflected in it's news programme. English regional news on the BBC really is quite poor. It's more of a magazine show, whereas Wales Today focuses on the core news agenda of the principality.
Bottom line is, and without getting into debate on how Wales is better/different to England (which of course it is), I do think that hopefully in 2005 we will see a new visual look to the programme. I hope to god the suits in Llandaf don't tamper with the way it covers the news of Wales, because I believe it really is first rate.

There is a reason why sound is different between Wales Today and the London news. It's because Wales went, some time ago, to a new sound standard that should be BBC wide. Network news, however, seem to be slightly slower on the uptake and thus the sound difference. You'll notice that London continuity etc... is higher than the news. I'd try to explain it, but your best bet is to ask someone like Steve D
Saying that, occasionally tehre are times when the sound is just TOO high and it's usually brought down in the transmission suite.
