I've seen TV Imedi in (the Republic of) Georgia using exactly same graphics on their newscasts. May be they both are using the same template (just like the late ATV in Hong Kong that has used some VideoHive template on their newscasts for certain years)?

Here is a small news update on Canal+ (France) from 1993 (BTW the journalist in this video, Damien Givelet, joined LCI in 1994 and has been there ever since)

I have always wondered why Canal+ axed it's news broadcasts

I have always wondered why Canal+ axed it's news broadcasts

Presumably because Canal acquired iTélé which is now CNEWS. CNEWS also provide news for Canal owned C8.

Wasn't iTélé always owned by Canal Plus?

I think it was partly owned by Canal+ alongside other shareholders at the beginning

Well said, although CNEWS could have easily provided news for Canal+ itself

The French Wikipedia article for CNEWS makes interesting reading. Just use a translation program if you can't read French.

Speaking of Canal Plus' news channels, in 1999, Canal Plus and Time Warner launched CNN+ in Spain. Here's a newscast from 2004:

Canal Plus eventually withdrew from Spain (even though some Canal Plus-branded channels survive). CNN+ went off the air in 2010.
