In its early years, before the all-images Six Minutes , French channel M6 already had a newscast featuring an anchor.

Starting at 3:48 in the following video, here's an example of Le Journal in October 1988, opening with a report on a football match (commented by Stéphane Tortora, who still works nowadays for Sport 6 , the sport news update), followed by a report on strikes in hospitals. It also contains Markets and Weather segments.

For the curious of vintage presentation, other elements of the M6 on-air identity of that time are also featured in this video, but be warned that some elements feature flashing images (therefore, seizure warning).

How have they pulled that off technically? Is there a spare studio in LA and they have been able to pull in additional staff or is it pre recorded?

Are they using the NY station's branding etc?

?

3 hour time difference....

Usually at 8pm PT/11pm ET, that studio would be in use for KCAL 9 News at 8pm, so my thinking is that KCAL 9 was decamped to the CBSN Los Angeles studio, which would be simulcasting those bulletins anyway, freeing up the main studio for CBS New York to use.

Well there is the time difference. But KCAL is on at times when WCBS was doing their 11PM newscasts. There are two separate sets for KCBS and KCAL, even though the KCAL set hasn’t been on air in a while. KCAL’s set was used during CBS Weekend News last weekend as KCBS’s studio would have been in use right before for their own newscasts.
Don’t let anyone treat you like you’re a VO/SOT when you’re a PKG.

Meridian (North) South Today

Very interesting, and very detailed coverage. They did incorrectly caption Ian MacDonald, MoD spokesman as John Nott, who was Defence Secretary (1:40), but hey !

The 'if I may say so, transient politician' Very Happy

Ha, yes. I saw Nott interviewed on the recent Thatcher Years documentary. Back in the 80s, he came across as a stiff, and rather humourless character. In the documentary he had completly changed, self depricating, and quite engaging
