Catherine Gonier-Cléon handled that 12/13 very well, considering it was the first network bulletin off the news, which broke just 25 mins beforehand. I can't imagine a regional lunchtime presenter covering a major national bulletin here in the UK dealing with it so well.... ok, maybe a few could, but still kudos to her!

If anything, Catherine GC should be kept on a permanent basis as F3's lunchtime national bulletin presenter, she has been exemplary. The plan is for her to return to Martinique to be the lead presenter on 1ére.

If you think CNNI has a bit too much feature programming during the weekend, you may be interested to know that things weren't much different in the early 1990s:

To be fair it's a bit broader than what shown these days which seems to revolve around Africa, or sports shows which are pretty niche at times. Most of these shows feel like commercial presentations rather than actual journalism.

I could be wrong, but I think what's new there is that the last clip is of a new news channel - Puls 24 (as opposed to the bulletins on Puls 4). It looks like it started at the beginning of this month.

EDIT: Though at a glance through Puls 4's video archive, it looks like the main bulletins are now called Puls 24 News. That seems to be the overarching news brand for Puls 4.

In a world of computer generated idents, titles etc it's refreshing to see something with physical elements. Here's a personal fave from CNBC Asia in 1998. With great simplicity the ident's sparks and hammering score evokes industry and manufacturing.

Does anyone recall if CNBC Europe had the same ident?

No, that ident was exclusive to CNBC Asia. CNBC Europe used the same CNBC Worldwide ident that US CNBC used, at least visually, though the music was different.

Chirac's state funeral is on Monday morning. TF1 and France 2 are the main channels providing coverage, alongside the news channels. Franceinfo is simulcasting F2.

BFM Paris have also been providing Pariscentric coverage of his death. Chirac was Mayor of Paris from 1977 to 1995 before becoming President.

French news, on the whole, looks brilliant. That set on the earlier France 2 video is a thing of beauty.
