I was discussing with someone about the new NHK set being over the top however I can’t remember what it looks like. Anyone got videos? I briefly thought the NHK set was the MBC set.
Don’t let anyone treat you like you’re a VO/SOT when you’re a PKG.

NHK's most recent sets are discussed on pages 590 and 591 of this thread. Did you have a particular NHK newscast in mind?

Interesting. Are they broadcasting in HD? The videos look like they’re coming from the authentic YouTube account.

Also based on current conversion rates it sounded like they spent $3 million on “automation” unless it included other things. Automation was the only word I could understand.

They are now broadcasting in HD, but they downgraded it on 4:3. They are debuting the new set for the Philippine elections on Monday. The first TV Network to broadcast in HD by 16:9 is ABS-CBN.

About the $3 Million thing, they invest it on Vizrt's Newsroom Automation System.

Today, I came across an Ukrainian programme called "Svidok" / "Свідок". Broadcast on channel NTN / НТН, I thought it had a slightly original history.

NTN / НТН hosts a lot of crime drama series (the channel logo itself looks like a short bit of police tape), and naturally a sort of crime and investigation magazine (not unlike "Вести. Дежурная часть" in Russia) would be fitting on that channel. That's what "Свідок" used to be, it seems:

They had a new intro at some point between 2014 and 2015 while keeping the same kind of content:

But then, at some point in 2015, "Свідок" appearently took a slightly different direction, and, from what I can judge, became a bit closer to an usual newscast covering varied topics (such as politics or the Eurovision Song Contest), although keeping a focus on crime and police stories.

While the "red dot" inherited from the previous CCTV atmosphere was kept in the programme's logo, the rest of the design underwent a radical change, the intro's graphic design adopting some detailed, complex CGI, of the kind that is commonly found on Russian and Ukrainian television. See, for example, how the midday:30 and 7p.m. bulletins look like.

"Свідок" means "witness" in Ukrainian. A very fitting name for a crime and investigation programme, but also a quite acceptable name for a newscast (if it reminds you of "Eyewitness News").

Love this, WPVI-TV Action News reporter Katie Katro was at an elementary school in Philly for their Career Day. She asked the kids if they know the theme and they did. That's branding for you!

And the original for comparison.

Its crazy how those legacy themes become ingrained into your brain. A great bit of branding perfectly timed to the images and the soaring beauty shot of the skyline. They tried to update it a few years ago and people were peeved WPVI backtracked and returned to the old theme. The title card has changed, but its basically the same open for decades. They basically use the original theme for the opening and there are other cuts used throughout the broadcast.

I'm here to give you something to talk about!

Hawke is remembered as Australia’s most popular Prime Minister, the ‘lovable rogue’ who won four consecutive federal elections, and was described even by political rivals as Australia’s greatest Labor Prime Minister.

And his most famous line - said after Australia won the America’s Cup in 1983:
