Today, I came across an Ukrainian programme called "Svidok" / "Свідок". Broadcast on channel NTN / НТН, I thought it had a slightly original history.
NTN / НТН hosts a lot of crime drama series (the channel logo itself looks like a short bit of police tape), and naturally a sort of crime and investigation magazine (not unlike "Вести. Дежурная часть" in Russia) would be fitting on that channel. That's what "Свідок" used to be, it seems:
They had a new intro at some point between 2014 and 2015 while keeping the same kind of content:
But then, at some point in 2015, "Свідок" appearently took a slightly different direction, and, from what I can judge, became a bit closer to an usual newscast covering varied topics (such as politics or the Eurovision Song Contest), although keeping a focus on crime and police stories.
While the "red dot" inherited from the previous CCTV atmosphere was kept in the programme's logo, the rest of the design underwent a radical change, the intro's graphic design adopting some detailed, complex CGI, of the kind that is commonly found on Russian and Ukrainian television. See, for example, how the midday:30 and 7p.m. bulletins look like.
"Свідок" means "witness" in Ukrainian. A very fitting name for a crime and investigation programme, but also a quite acceptable name for a newscast (if it reminds you of "Eyewitness News").
