Central (West) Midlands Today
VTM, the first Dutch-language commercial channel in Belgium, turns 30 today; to celebrate, the public broadcaster VRT linked up with them during their midday news, with the anchors from both channels having a nice little chat live on air:

Here's a video featuring all the intros to VTM Nieuws from 1989 onwards (except the current intro). I have to say, the 2004 intro (2:04) remains my absolute favourite intro of any news programme, anywhere.

(Please note, the 2011 intro (2:40) does contain some distressing images in the headlines, so more sensitive viewers might want to skip that one.)

And here's the current intro, introduced in September last year:

From France, here's an interesting compilation of news intros used by ORTF's Channel Two (Deuxième chaîne) before ORTF was broken up in 1975. The news intro at 0:13 is especially interesting; it's a rare clip of 24 heures sur la 2 from before 1972, when the news team was moved lock, stock, and barrel to Channel One and became 24 heures sur la Une.

And from September 11, 1972, here's the first-ever (1 p.m.) edition of 24 heures sur la une. It begins with the news director's explanation of the 24 heures team's move from Channel Two to Channel One. A you can see, most of the presentation elements survived the move unchanged:

Very casual attire from the presenter there. I think certain types would probably wet themselves if a newsreader wore that here... Laughing

Staying in Belgium, a historical compilation of RTBF (French) news intros since 1973:

That 1997 intro (4:58 in the video) is certainly very unique; you can tell it comes from a French-speaking country.

Still staying in Belgium, here's a full edition of VTM's late news, 2 days before 9/11 (promo at 0:20, intro at 12:34, outro at 31:48 below):

And here's Intro Collector's compilation of BRT/BRTN/VRT (Dutch-language) news intros since 1953 -- including some very postmodern intros in the late 1980s/early '90s:

WARNING: You may end up getting the 1950s/'60s theme stuck in your head.

AAAARGH! I hadn't long gotten that '50s theme out of my head when I clicked on your video and then... let's just say it's now going round in my head like some sort of demented teacup!

That being said, I do think there are some great intros in that video. I especially love the ones from 2002 and 2008 (which changed colour depending on the time of day).
