It's interesting to see just how much better the anchors' chemistry is than what is usually seen on, say, Sky News these days.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. A weekend breakfast slot is always going to be more jovial and upbeat than the average hour of news. Duos are becoming fewer and fewer on UK news, but I'd say the ones that remain do work (bar a few on Sky News as you point out). The two presenters in the clip, Aurélie Casse and Stefan Etcheverry are very good, with a good few years of French news channels under their belts, so I am glad they are finally 'titulaires' and that they are opening the new studio. Interesting that Aurélie 'tutoyed' Stefan a few times, which we cannot do in English but that surely gives the viewer the impression that there is somewhat of a positive, relaxed on-screen atmosphere. It still makes me raise an eyebrow when I hear French presenters tutoying each other on news programmes - it will still be a while before it happens commonplace I think.

To be fair, the early morning version of Premiere Edition from 4.30-6am is also less formal on weekdays.

Every time I see BFMTV, I see them doing Sky News the way it should have ended up. This I think is their largest studio to date, yet isn't completely over the top.

I also like the fact that the soft area is on the opposite side of the formal set with the screen dividing the two, keeping consistency.

I think the old set only lasted 14 months. I suspect down to LCI also upping their game with a much larger set and Franceinfo's innovative open plan newsroom studio, yet CNEWS continues to be a relic from the i>Télé era.

I agree with you, although coming to think of it, I find that the previous pairing (Mari/Moncel) was much better. It must be horrible to work those extremely early shifts, so I understand why the turnover of presenters is so high, even if it does split up some good duos.

It's funny how the CNEWS studios are probably the best but their output is the worst. What a difference a few years makes!

Céline Pitelet now presents Week-end Direct, which used to be presented by Aurélie Casse.

I used to be an avid viewer to i>Télé when it had a well resourced morning show with Bruce Toussaint who now has his own show on BFMTV, but CNEWS has reverted to a standard two-presenter format of news. Not a fan of those oversized graphics either, see Euronews English for another example of oversized astons.

The i>Télé strike before CNEWS started has ruined that channel and allowed Franceinfo and LCI to grow share at it's expense.

I honestly can’t tell is the set virtual or real? Looks good.

It's a new set - or at least a serious upgrade of the old one, rather than a complete overhaul - which was launched last month. The big improvement is the screen wrapped around the back - much higher definition than the one it replaced.

I always thought that the BFMTV presenters had a comfy banter with each other and they in general dont have a stilted style of moving and walking around a set and when transitioning between stories. And really its because its not a typically rolling news style channel in the accepted sense. Its a breezier, personable style rather the rigid "gotta-stick-to the auto-cue", "thank-you-very-much-indeed" style you see on Sky or BBC . Makes for interesting watch. "
