Speaking of French-language TV news, here's Antenne 2's (now France 2) national evening news on today' s date 40 years ago with one of my favorite looks from the 1970s:

I like how Antenne 2's opening sequence was always a bit different. A few days later, for example, the cameras followed the anchor as he made his way to the set from above:

I feel the contrast of other countries (like Germany's Tagesschau, Poland) which prefer to "broadcast" news from many years ago than France which prefers to publish old news broadcasts online.

Staying in France, but going five years further back in time, here's the news from ORTF's First Channel on today's date in 1972:

Good to know: the theme from 1981 to 1985 inspired the theme for sister news channel LCI launched in 1994.

Also worth noting that LCI used to provide short news updates (in the night) for TF1, which explains why, in the video above, you can see an intro with the "TF1" logo.

What's the point of TF1 launching LCI?

Well, the Groupe TF1 wanted to create a news channel. So they created it in 1994 and it was broadcasted on cable television. LCI is actually the first news television channel created in France.

I guess TF1 saw the success of news channels abroad, as well as the success of the news public radio station France Info.
