I really don't like that, especially the desk. Rolling Eyes

Going through the last few pages and I see posts about departure of that French female presenter and also that no one reported on changes happening on TVE.

Partido Popular is making big changes, getting rid of everyone they don't like in TVE news division. Rolling Eyes They put a new man in charge and few days ago he fired Ana Pastor, presenter of morning debate program Los Desayunos de TVE. Ana was known for giving tough time to politicians during interviews, something not very common on Spanish media scene.

Also in June, Pepa Bueno, presenter of main evening Telediario left on her own, to do a radio show, but apparently everyone expected they would get rid of her too. She presented Los Desayunos before Ana took over in 2009, by the way.

I spoke to some friends from Spain and apparently it's a normal thing there to have changes like this when new party wins elections. Still most people were outraged after Ana got fired and she was trending for a few days.

Currently TVE is in summer mode so most news is done by it's news channel 24 horas, we'll see what happens in September when things go back to normal.

If it weren't for that photo, I would have sworn that SWR's desk -- or most of it -- was virtual!

Staying in Germany, ZDF unveiled its virtual set in 2009. A day before, it took a look back at its previous sets and previewed the new one:

BTW, since we were talking about SWR, here's a useful map from Wikipedia showing the various regional broadcasters that make up ARD:

Many -- but not all -- of these broadcasters have opt-outs covering smaller regions or towns. For instance, here is WDR's opt-out for the city of Bonn:

Be on the lookout for more. I recorded an entire day's worth of CBS News' output and am working on making some compilations. I've already uploaded Up to the Minute and the CBS Morning News. I'm still working on CBS This Morning (right now my video is 20 minutes!) and the Evening News.

This morning there was an armed robbery in the village in Greece that I used to live in ten years ago (and that my sister still lives in).

Having watched the Greek media from three of the main privately-owned (as opposed to the state owned) channels - Mega, Star and Alpha - I honestly feel that whatever shortcomings that we think UK broadcast news has, thank goodness it is nowhere near the crass, hyped, overly dramatic, ratings-seeking news as exhibited abroad.

Of the three, Mega was the most professional with its reporting with on-the-spot reports and interviews and audio-only reporting.

Then there's Star with its overly bombastic background music and close-up shots of the murder scene.

Finally there's Alpha with all of the above, but interspersed with stock shots of Police on the mainland, plus a CGI recreation of a bank (set in a city) with animated robbers shooting a civilian (who ends up dead on the ground).

Like it or loathe it, I'm so glad we have the BBC, Sky and ITN.

Alas, I've finished my CBS News project! Here are highlights of every CBS News program:

This is Up to the Minute, CBS News' overnight news block. It is the only national news program in the US that is still not in high definition.

This is the CBS Morning News, which was already posted above by WW Update. This newscast usually airs at 4:30am, but some affiliates are now producing local news at that time, pushing the Morning News back to 4am.

CBS This Morning, as anchored by Charlie Rose, Gayle King, and Norah O'Donnell, who was filling in for Erica Hill that day. It was announced about a week after I taped this that Norah will replace Erica permanently in the fall. Also note that the time bug and weather ticker are non-standard; my affiliate doesn't use the provided ticker and instead uses their own.

CBS This Morning also includes opt-outs at :25 and :55 for local affiliates to insert a local news update. Here's one insert from my affiliate, KCNC-TV, CBS4 Denver. The graphics and music seen here are the standard graphics that are used at all CBS-owned local affiliates.

Finally, the flagship program, the CBS Evening News:

As you can see, there are some slight similarities in terms of the graphical styles used on each platform, but for the most part, there's not a clear presentation style by any means. CBS News has a great news product in my opinion, and I would love to see their presentation match. NBC has built a great in-house graphics team that has created a clear NBC style— a standardized color palette and good typography— that is used across all their platforms differently, but there's a clear NBC ethos with all of them. It would be nice if CBS had that same vision.

Fantastic compilation Charles, thanks for taking the time to record, edit and upload those! I really like the tone CBS has struck with This Morning, has it made any gains in the ratings?

Meanwhile, here's ARD Mittagsmagazin's new set which launched in July.

The concept evolves around a curved 32:9 rear projection displaying all sort of visual content on an impressive 194 inch screen. The elegant and light architecture blends in seamlessly with the motion graphics. That way, set and motion design create a unique and convincing look setting the focus on news and information content.

Here's a video, if you're interested in seeing how it works with the above-mentioned graphics:

And a big "thank you" from me too, Charles!

Here's a quote from TVNewser, posted just before the Olympics:

Quote:
Compared to the same week last year “Today” is down -15% in Total Viewers and down -24% in younger viewers. “GMA” is up slightly in both measurements while “CBS This Morning,” which trails the other shows by 2 million viewers, is up +11% in Total Viewers and up +29% in younger viewers.

Sounds promising! I hope that CBS sticks with it.
