Fox News were discussing the NY protest and had feed from rally in Dallas when the shooting happened. They appeared to show police on the floor - they end up cutting away I think when they realise what is going on.
It just show show fast news can break and change in an instant.

The mini newsroom to me seemed it was designed for the people who would be interacting with the talent the most would be placed there. A year or so ago when they added the bubble cam position they also added pillars (like you would see at a political convention) showing where the different teams are working. Around that time I noticed they would actually bring the host to the persons desk (usually MSNBC's Chief Legal Editor Ari Melber and the energizer bunny Cal Perry* whose the Sr Editor for Digital and Video Content) and interview them there.
To me this newsroom shows a bit of the buildings history and personality to it.
Comcast certainly is investing a lot of money into the building - completely gutting studios, upgrading infrastructure and returning the lobby back to its former glory (apparently it was something to be seen before it was closed up).
Dennis Degan, who I believe is currently a senior video editor at NBC News working on Today, has a treasure trove of photographs showing different parts of NBC's operations at 30 Rock and other behind the scenes photographs of the building. Here's a direct link to his Flickr album showing photos from 2004 to present day. The page that I directly linked to shows photos of the new newsroom and studio space before they moved in.
I imagine something big must be going on in Studio 3A it's going on two weeks since its been out of use. I guess they could be retrofitting /rebuilding the studio space for the upcoming elections. They're doing a good job of utilizing what's available - one of the larger insert studios, 3K at night and the new 4C. With the political conventions coming up and the Olympics shortly there after 3A wouldn't be getting much use anyway with outside broadcasts and numerous preemptions during the games. So it seems like now would be the perfect time to upgrade.
Tonight they moved the curved election desk that use stars as legs into 3K for a discussion with Brian Williams, Rachel Maddow, Nicole Wallace and Eugene Robinson. Nicole Wallace had an exclusive one on one (they're cautious not to say interview) with Jeb Bush from their family compound in Maine. Brian, Rachel, Nicole and Eugene were there to set the tone of the upcoming questions and give their responses and perspectives.
*By Energizer Bunny Cal Perry seems to be always on call and on point. On the Thursday before the Dallas Police Shootings he kept adding information to Brian Williams telecast of the testimony of FBI Director Comey. Later that night he was on MSNBC adding additional information to coverage of the police shootings and he was going all night. Eventually I fell asleep around 7AM after watching coverage but I TiVo'd the rest and he was still there.
That's a nice looking space with great depth of field. It's obvious that's a real newsroom unlike the sort of mini-newsroom on the third floor. Not sure how I feel about the brick, but it looks like it's original to the building.
Now as for the 'anchor' in that clip...

Yeah, the third floor newsroom must have some purpose, but there's no way that's a fully-functioning newsroom. Hardly anyone is in there at the start of Morning Joe.
I also agree with the points about Cal Perry. I was a fan of his in the Al Jazeera days, but I am always surprised when I see him pop up anchoring on MSNBC or whatever else.

The newsroom seen in Studio 3A certainly includes (or at least did as of a few months ago) people like the guest bookers. If it isn't primarily a base for producers, researchers and journalists then it would make sense that it would fill up progressively as the morning goes on, rather than be permanently busy.

Jose Diaz-Balart has been named the permanent Saturday anchor for NBC Nightly News beginning 3 August. During the week he will continue to anchor Noticiero Telemundo on well Telemundo. He will continue to host his Sunday show EnFoque which is pretaped. Because of all these commitments he's dropping his daily MSNBC show but still will pop up on both networks from time to time. Craig Melvin will take over his slot.

MSNBC's studio 3A returned to service. It appears that they removed the tall video wall (the one that has large mullions) that was used to show New York that was to the right of the projection monitors and the new LED video wall that was installed this year. Now they installed a video wall similar to that that's used for NBC Nightly News in that corner. However this new video wall is much brighter and crisper than the rear projection ones used at Nightly. It's been kinda hard to get any screen shots of it but it looks decent.
Edit: Here's a good screen capture from NewsCast Studio:

Its almost like they are trying to fool viewers into thinking they have a built a proper studio in the RNC hall.

The picture quality of the screen was amazing. For a second I thought they were there - it looked nothing like the quality of the Nightly studio. Maybe it's the quality of the LED panels - they are so bright and vivid. Makes me wonder if the background came from a 4K feed or something like this VistaCam product .
NBC has two that I have seen in use that one on top of the other with the bottom one that looks like it's only feet from floor level. NBC News appears to use the top one and MSNBC used the bottom. They are located right next to CNN that also has two sky boxes that are on top of one another as well. I'm not sure if both NBC and CNN have another box because directly across the arena and up a little higher there are additional signage for both CNN and NBC. I haven't caught CNN but NBC has used a shot from across the arena showing their booth. As you can see in the image below CBS has a single box that is right above NBC's. I'm not sure where ABC's is located.
