I LOVE that NBC desk. So clean and modern. US News is finally entering the 21st century. I also think the MSNBC coverage was great. The channel doesn't get the credit it deserves, largely because much of the commentary of it focuses on its centre-left bias.

What left wing commentary is left? MSNBC has shown most of its progressive talent the door, and the morning show host is a Trump supporter.

Chris Hayes, Rachel Maddow, Laurence O'Donnell. All their primetime hosts.

Yes, but for how long? It's very clear to anyone who's followed MSNBC that the channel has taken a very different turn towards less opinion-driven programming in the last year. I'd say it's much closer to CNN in terms of editorial direction than it ever has been in recent years.

I think overall, the prime-time opinion programming is going to stay. I don't think they're going to change Hardball, that's practically an institution on MSNBC, it's been around longer than the network has, as it used to air on CNBC and before that, as Politics with Chris Matthews on America's Talking.

Rachel Maddow is their most popular and successful host there currently, as her social media presence adds far more to that show than the mere broadcast itself. She's not going anywhere.

Lawrence O'Donnell is pretty much a 50/50 I think at this point. MSNBC could get rid of him, but they'd be losing a show and a host with a lot of political experience, expertise and knowledge, gained first hand. They will probably want to keep him around.

Chris Hayes and his All In show is the one that is in the most danger currently. There's been a lot of talk about replacing it, and about who would replace that show. Keith Olbermann's name has cropped up more than once. I get the feeling it might get returned to the weekends replacing Melissa Harris Perry. It had a strong following on the weekends, which was why it got promoted into primetime, but I think the show only has cult appeal, rather than popular appeal.

For me, the make or break moment for MSNBC will be who replaces Chris Hayes at 8pm.

Despite coverage that I thought was great, MSNBC did terribly on Super Tuesday - coming a distant third among the news channels and losing viewers compared with the same night in 2008...

Brian Williams (who co-hosts all their primary/caucus coverage with Rachel Maddow) doesn't seem to be proving much of a draw for them.

On a completely separate note, I was reminded today of how badly both MSNBC and ABC handled the announcement of Obama's re-election in 2012, so thought I'd share...

MSNBC: NBC was the first to call the election for Obama but MSNBC didn't appear to realise. To be fair, MSNBC was still the second network to make the call, but in a very awkward way... [19:34 if it doesn't start there automatically]

ABC: The infamous election night where Diane Sawyer got a very bad press. ABC was the last of the networks to make the call. No-one seems to have picked up on this, but I strongly suspect that, when Diane interrupts herself to say "mark the time", she's either reading out an instruction on the autocue or via her earpiece to say what time it is (standard practice when calling an election)...

I agree MSNBC doesn't get the credit they deserve. I think Brian is doing a great job, loved him on Nightly and still do with him on MSNBC. Speaking of, one of their anchors, Jose Diaz Balart, was broadcasting his show live from my university about an hour ago.

Today beats GMA in total viewers for the first time since 2012 and the Olympics. Deservedly so!

They also added some new gadgets & special social media rooms to the set. Expect GMA to follow.

One should also note the new Sunday Today hosted by Willie Geist

Thanks - hadn't spotted that Sunday Today news! I noticed that Erica Hill has been anchoring quite a bit on MSNBC as well as Weekend Today, so hopefully it's not much of a demotion dropping down to just Saturdays.

THey are trying to position it as a rival to CBS Sunday Morning. Not going to happen. Like 60 Minutes...CBS News has the timeslot owned. Interestingly Willie Geist dad is a reporter for CBS Sunday Morning. I think he has ALS but continues to work in a reduced role.

There may not be any other places she has left to go to, unless she's returning to CNN.
