It seems very inspired by Lunchtime/Afternoon Live which used to air on Sky News.

Ironic that Sky News ditched appointment to view programmes almost 10 years ago and BBC News are now running with the idea. Although its only happening due to the savings that need to be found.

The question on everyone's lips though is how the programme will handle a big Breaking News story. I suppose we'll have to wait and see.

I'll reserve judgement until I see it on screen - but looking forward to watching on Tuesday.

Provided there are a decent amount of news headlines, and the ability to go into full rolling mode isn't lost, I don't see a problem with this running on the News Channel. The time it's on air are traditionally quiet for actual news, with the bulletins mostly focussing on reviewing and discussing stories from overnight / the previous day, which this programme seems to be specifically designed to do - and better than the NC does at present.

Overall I think it's good to see the NC getting some variation to it's output.

As I've always said I just think it's at completely the wrong time of day. The morning is when the news agenda is set and though I've absolutely no facts to back this up I'd have thought the morning is primetime for breaking UK news at least. I really think this is the sort of show better suited to the evening, or if airing in daytime perhaps an hour at noon would do the job.

However I will credit BBC News with breaking away from the norm for the first time in a decade or so and taking a fairly big risk.

I just hope it doesn't end up being like "The Pulse" - ITV's ill-fated attempt at shoehorning public opinion into the Lunchtime News back in 2005. It really was cringe-worthy television at its worst - going from serious news to hearing Joan from Solihull's opinion of it. It was jarring and inappropriate for a news programme and I just hope the BBC can manage it better than ITV did.

Watching the video posted, the "Online Porn Addiction" interview looks like something I'd expect to see on This Morning, not on the News Channel.

Sorry? There's absolutely no need to belittle me like this. You will note that I did not voice an opinion on this new programme at all - I merely stated that I hope it doesn't follow the same format as The Pulse for stated reasons. I've been a member of TV Forum for too many years to fall into the trap of pre-judging new programmes.

I'm not sure you were being belittled to be honest with you - davidhorman simply posted a link to a video which mocked 'shoehorning public opinion' into news, as you mentioned.

Sorry, davidhorman - just realised this. I thought it was implying that I didn't know anything about it and therefore shouldn't give an opinion! That'll teach me Smile

Also coming to thought of who the cover presenter may be?

My guesses (although probably wrong) would be Sian Williams or Sophie Raworth, if she's not on the One. Perhaps Kate Silverton when she's back from Maternity leave?
