BBC have a vast archive at their disposal, surely they could fill the void with classic sitcoms, dramas etc - or do the BBC prefer saving that for their commercial UKTV channels?

Much cheaper to repeat factual than ancient programme with high royalties

If the article is true, then the Derbyshire show has achieved their objectives online, by sharing the journalism on social media to those hard to reach audiences.

However as a linear show on the NC, it hasn't ever really worked. Going by this, digital appears to be the way forward as they did with BBC Three.

The "lovely films" will survive in some form or another, either going online or as a long-form VT on the NC bulletins.

Why is the “linear” bit the expensive part? Surely producing a programme for online costs the same as producing it for TV.

Unless they mean it’d be cheaper just having the “lovely films” without the expense of a studio, camera operators, gallery etc.

There’s more staff than that - people to look after guests, if there’s any form of audience you’ve PR staff to sort, then any extra security, floor runners. It all adds up to more than you think and could easily end up several hundred thousand a year if not more.

My moneys on some kind of extended Your Call with 5 Live, visualised like the election phone-ins and Derbyshire will either front that or a similar current affairs slot.

Then the ‘lovely films’ will end up on a new rebranded part of the BBC news website - sort of like BBC Stories.

I wouldn't be entirely surprised if BBC Two daytime opted to simulcast BBC World News, as that would presumably be fairly low cost and at least provide something different to the News Channel. Alternatively there's always the option of somehow televising 5 Live's The Emma Barnett Show. I can't see BBC Two daytime having much of a change in budget.

If I recall, BBC Two in the early days of the cuts had a 30 min simulcast with World at 11.30.

That ship already sailed long ago! And plus it was said in The Times this morning That the News Channel is unaffected (outside of Victoria Derbyshire anyway).

It did. One of the 11:30am programmes was the last BBC World News programme from TV Centre, before World switched to the "World's Newsroom" at NBH at 12noon. BBC Two viewers had to wait nearly 24 hours to see the new look.

Until 2012 I believe GMT used to be broadcast at noon on BBC World News and BBC Two, before that it was an edition of World News Today until 29 January 2011
