Couldn’t find an appropriate thread so thought I’d make a new one.

The obvious choice for the role, and rightly so. Wonder who they’ll bring in to replace her as Chief Political Correspondent, Chris Mason? Norman Smith’s old role as assistant still needs filling too.

Very well deserved. Clear, concise, calm, competent.

What’s the difference between assistant editor and deputy editor? Which one is more senior?

The deputy is more senior than the assistant. John Pienaar (who was deputy) appeared on the Six & Ten whilst Norman Smith (who was assistant) only appeared on the NC in the mornings and the One.

Deputy I guess, John Pinear regularly appeared on the Six and Ten and Norman regularly appeared in morning and the One

Norman also had a contribution to the Today programme, and reported each day on the Six O’Clock News on Radio 4 - people seem to be forgetting the radio element to the role as well.

My understanding is there’s no guarantee it will be.
