UTV Live (News) rebrand

New look to bring it in line with ITV (October 2016)

They've got the ITV News title sequence/music, but the set doesn't look very corporate. What was to stop them bringing in the standard regional news set?

Hmm, it is corporate in terms of the elements they've introduced - white desk, teal, wooden flooring. I'm guessing they're holding out for the big move.

A different layout of set would result in different lighting and/or camera angle requirements, plus ample time after the initial set build to "pilot" the set (i.e. rehearse the new camera & presenter positions/angles, tinker with the new lighting angles etc to iron out any problems, and also get past any teething problems with any new tech such as swanky new LCD screens etc).

They would surely have had to de-camp for longer than one poxy week to get all of that sorted, so I never expected anything other than a "repainted" version of the old set.

Also, the standardised regional sets incorporate no fewer than seven large Ultra-HD screens (five of which form the 3-sided "window"). It'd be a waste of money to buy those for perhaps only 18-24 months' usage at Havelock House, and then buy 7 new ones again when they move premises. Any "proper generic set" at their current home would perhaps have avoided this cost duplication by having 5 static boards/transparencies etc in place of where the five UHD screens should be (e.g. with a printed image of a CGI newsroom or something).

Yes they could have planned to decamp again during their very final weeks at Ormeau Road, strike the generic set and rebuild it at the new place. But that would mean having a set at their shiny new home that has already had a year or two's wear-and-tear (plus any wear-and-tear sustained during transportation), which would be a crap situation.

The lighting is dreadful - also you can see the reflection of the wonky and messy LED strip lighting.
Noticed this myself and was about to post about it.

The logo doesn't look right in the plasmas either. It's already clear they're not centre !

The aspect ratio settings on the plasmas was probably set for the old logo so it looked bigger on screen and they haven't adjusted it for the new logo. It looks like it's set to Cinema Zoom or something.

Oh boy. I know everyone is saying the station is slated to move in a little while. But there really isnt any excuse for poor lighting on the set. Its washed out. Its not like this revamp wasnt planned. Frankly Im not impressed. The logo could have been handled a bit better. IMO it feels a bit slap-dashy. I saw a mock up someone did that incorporated the U a bit better with the "tv" script a little better. But having said that, ITV logos last for a decade or so then its revamped anyway, so could this be the stop-gap logo until the inevitable network revamp happens in few years. In the meantime, they should push the "UTV part of ITV" slogan. ITV wasnt married to the other heritage station names anymore. In for a penny......

I had a feeling they do the logo like this rather than ITV News UTV Live as some were suggesting.

I see no issue in using a relit existing set, it's just the usual TV Forum disappointment like what occurs every Jan/Sep in the GMB/Daybreak/GMTV thread where people are promised it all and get little.

It's good that the news is still called UTV Live. There was a rumour going round that it was to change to UTV News. Never made sense to me. No 'ITV News' branding on the titles is interesting; probably because the station is still called UTV.

I guess the people of NI aren't ready for the no-desk look.

Interesting that UTV seem to have been given the 'old' ITV News graphics as it were, which don't change size to suit the amount of text on them, and instead are a fixed width.

Eh? No existing national/regional ITV plc news programmes are desk-less.
