UTV's concessions to corporate-ITV-ness it seems, but they only go so far...
The title sequence...hmm. It starts the same as the old one but goes a bit wierd then. Only the last vestiges of the 1999 music remain. I like the logo though - its a lot more suitable to a serious news programme than the one just abandoned.
Wonder if UTV have any changes lined up for the forthcoming ITV-relaunch? They went with the 2002 look for a while but that lasted all of about four months...

From what I have seen on The TV Room I can say that I actually like the look, it isn't quiet ITV News at all, but it is a good mix, with the new straps and astons on screen. I also like the remix of the music, if you ask me the old theme sounded very morbid compared to previous versions.

I thought this UTV Live brand refresh was too good to be true, and indeed it is.
In good old UTV style they still have bits of the previous look mixed up with this new look.
Last night's late UTV Live, during the late ITV News, featured two appearances of the old UTV Live logo, as a brief top and tail to the local weather.
Look out for it tonight to see if anyone at Havelock House has bothered to edit on the new UTV Live logo. Probably about as much chance as Newsline using a BBC logo that doesn't look like it was created using MS Paint.
And talking of logos that don't look right, the new UTV Live dog has not been created in the correct proportions/aspect ratio (it's too thin, compared to the full sized logo).

Don't knock it... at least it's in 16:9 and meets OFCOM regulations!

I thought it looked slightly different - and also, why does the UTV Live logo on the astons look different to the logo used in the titles?

If/when UTV gets the generic ITV News look, and/or becomes part of ITVplc, what name do suppose the news will have?
As the HTV name was deemed as "clashing with" the ITV name, hence the two HTV News' becoming ITV Wales News and ITV West News respectively, one presumes that the UTV name will also be deemed as "clashing".
1: "ITV Live" would be most similar to the current title, but sounds like a UK-wide orientated programme.
2: "ITV Northern Ireland News" would follow the same logic as Wales/West, but is too cumbersome (especially as the generic logo allows only a single line of text).
3: "ITV Ulster News" would solve the above problem, but obviously calling Northern Ireland "Ulster" is frowned upon these days (hence BBC Inside Ulster became BBC Newsline, the RUC got renamed etc etc). Also, calling NI "Ulster" has always been geographically incorrect (the historical area of Ulster trancends the modern NI/ROI border).
So what would an ITVplc-owned, generic-looking NI news programme be called?

Good question - I suppose it depends whether or not UTV are still called UTV if they go for the full whack generic ITV news look.
If they are still UTV, I'd see no reason why they wouldn't keep the name UTV Live - knowing UTV, they'll probably include their logo in the titles by some means or another.
If UTV ever became ITV1(insert your own name here...), I would suspect the most suitable title would be "Northern Ireland News" or "Northern Ireland Live" - both are practical enough to name on air, list in TV schedules(!) and fit into the opening titles. Or even "NI News" or "NI Live" for the sake of brevity.

Indeed. They are sensible suggestions. It's just that I was supposing that ITVplc would try to use "ITV" as a substitute for "UTV" in the name (in they way that they did with "HTV" ), so as to retain something vaguely similar to the existing. Your suggestions would be a total change.
But, I agree, there's not much else they could do.
