Those are all for Presidential elections, though - these are midterms, and although I'm not particularly au fait with past American politics, I wouldn't be surprised if these are by far the most intensely covered midterms in history - with the most elaborate midterm sets to match.

Thats not actually true at all. ABC has done elaborate sets for midterms elections as shown by the 1966 YouTube video. Im fully aware of which elections those were for. I wasnt claiming they were for any other election that which was noted. I was making the point that the networks dont do these big elaborate sets for either election.

From TVNEWSER
Quote:
Per a White House pool report, former Fox News co-president turned White House deputy chief of staff for communications Bill Shine was seen high-fiving his longtime buddy Hannity at the rally.

From FTVLIVE
Quote:
Today Fox News released this statement, “FOX News does not condone any talent participating in campaign events. We have an extraordinary team of journalists helming our coverage tonight and we are extremely proud of their work. This was an unfortunate distraction and has been addressed.”

Sweet Zombie Jesus. I tried to come up with a "Can you imagine if..." scenario involving a British newsreader (or political talk show host or whatever he's claiming to be just now) and a British politician, but the whole thing's just too ridiculous.

CNN really needs to overhaul everything before the next election. The same theme since 2008 is pretty shocking. The Washington Bureau has received tweaks in recent months, but could also do with a brand new look instead of upgrades. Beginning to look tired.

But had CNN, MSNBC or one of the networks did that during the another administration, FauxNews would have imploded in the fake viewer grabbing outrage they do so well. This is very unusual. But certainly FNC will claim that Hannity an Pirro are not journalists and therefore its was ok. In years past they frowned on this and barred their talent from doing this type of stuff. It seems like they have turned a blind eye.

Thanks for sharing these. I think the ABC one is their online-only coverage but, in the past, the network feed has been available on their website and apps too.

Fingers crossed the networks keep the streams up for the Pacific coast programmes so I can watch early tomorrow morning.

I can't stand that bland, cheap sounding music. You would expect election theme to have more impact, authority and drama in it.

My second screen will be Justin Robert Young's live stream for the lolz, but I am wondering what network would be the best to watch to get a deeper insight into the local races and good commentary as the results come in?

Normally I would turn to CNN, and avoiding Fox News obviously - but perhaps others here would have a better suggestion?

Well it kinda depends on the race you are interested in following. I would suggest you look for a local affiliate in the region you are interested in following. Avoid any SINCLAIR station like the plague. I would suggest sticking to the big city affiliates in that particular state. For example the governors races in GEORGIA and FLORIDA will be 2 big races. So Im gonna dip into WSB 2 ATLANTA for coverage. Also FLORIDA you have a number of cities that will provide quite good coverage. The stations in Orlando like WFTV, or WSVN Miami, or WTVT Tampa would be ones to watch.

Many stations are running special extended coverage.
WLS Chicago - is using its relationship with independent station WCIU to run live local coverage whilst its main channel WLS is taking ABC NEWS National coverage.

As for ABC they benefit majorly for having a full height studio* available. The ones at CBS and NBC are booked with hard sets or are rented out during the week and on Sundays.

NBC is again doing democracy plaza with VR Technology and appeared today they were rigging LED screens as well. Now in past elections ITV have been at the plaza reporting, with them owning Sky will they be there as well?

* Edit : By full height I mean one thats designed for audience use. NBC has studio 3B available but it’s not that tall and couldn’t pull off a grand set like ABC with two floors.

Sky/NBC - there’s not been much sign on the broadcast side of collaboration but I imagine these things take months to get together. Sky have existing arrangements with Fox and ABC so presumably they’ll want to wind those up first. However, Sky do seem to be repurposing a lot of nbcnews.com material for skynews.com (today’s story about “alien space craft passing the sun” being a good, if odd, example)

ABC Set - it’s clearly lovely from a presentation geek POV. But could help find it a bit too much on the eye when I saw it. The presenters and panels all seem very distant in some camera angles and all shot from overhead, which gives it an odd feel

They've essentially had the same graphics since 2010 too. I've never been a fan of this look. The 2008 one was so much better.
