I'm surprised a thread hasn't sprung up on this already.

I saw a special caption on Newsnight last night - it showed a fluttering US flag, which slowly condensed into the glass '2008' caption. It looked very good.

In addition, I think ABC World News with Charles Gibson has adopted special pres; Charlie did the bulletin as an OB from somewhere in Iowa, and IIRC there were special graphics too.

Have ITN and Sky done anything?

Why? I can't see any other threads on it? It's not a one off event either. There will be caucuses and primaries in the days, weeks and months to come. Roll on November when they can get rid of that cretin in the White House and hopefully replace him with someone with a brain.

I am afraid they are stuck with him until January despite the fact that the elections take place in November. It's slightly odd isn't it!

I'm not sure which is odder really, a nice leisurely handover of power or the whole transition rushed through in a few hours on a Friday morning

It's not actually that bad. Charlie Gibson is a good presenter, and it's one of the less sensationalist American bulletins, and after watching it you get the feeling that you know what the world looks like through American eyes. Not everything's like those tabloid stations you see in the Pres Around The World thread.

If we use George Bush as a yardstick, then certain presidents would seem to have less than no brain. Perhaps Mike Huckabee's brain is made of dark matter?

ABC's World News is rapidly becoming the number 1 evening newscast in the US. It's certainly very good in terms of editorial content - so definitely not to be sniffed at!

A good programme, even though it's obsessed by medical stories. I saw an edition recently with the American adverts... and they were all medical related too!

I enjoy watching NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams. The thing I don't like about ABC World News is that I fear it is heavily edited by the BBC. The NBC bulletin goes out live on CNBC (at 2330) so I know that it isn't edited. CBS Evening News is a load of rubbish - good music, but editorially it is not so good. I'm also not keen on Katie Couric. She comes across as a bit smarmy and sickly sweet. Williams and Gibson are much more heavyweight.
