What does it matter if it's in the wrong forum? Just a couple of clicks and you'll see it anyway!

Moving on, I assume if they do vote to strike (which I think they should), this would effect more than the recent ITV strike yeah?

It's not often I agree with Uncle Bruce, but this time I do - the thread stands and can stay in this forum, because I was under the impression the strike was more due to news and current affair cuts rather than any other departments.

Ironically, the other day I was about to post about this topic - I'm glad I didn't else I might have got shot down. Laughing

This will be a particularly interesting situation if BBC Broadcast staff come out on strike. Given they are being sold off by the current management (for no discernable reason - the BBC have admitted it's not for financial gain), I'd say it's quite possible they will.

Not really (although I don't give a toss which forum it's on Smile) - see this BBC news story. The numbers listed under "BBC JOB CUTS BY 2008" are in addition to the number of staff leaving the corporation as a result of the sell-offs of BBC Broadcast and BBC Resources, bringing the total to almost 6000.

Well to be honest, I had read about Nations, Regions (mostly news and current affairs type stuff to be honest) and BBC News having cuts which would total over 1,000 people so that must be why I thought this.

It'll also teach me not to take too much notice of the NUJ magazine. Laughing

I did however realise a lot of jobs were going elsewhere, and the current feeling at "BBC Broadcast".

Good point, although I think it affects non-news stuff in the Nations more than the English regions. For example, of the 735 jobs going in N&R, 194 are from BBC Wales, of which 20 will be from News & Current Affairs.

Hurrah.

On the subject, ballot papers apparently going out in about a week's time.

Yes, they're out on the 21st I believe.

We were told that the ballot will probably last 2-3 weeks and then any strike could be as long as 5 weeks after that (assuming of course it is a 'yes') So it'll be late June/early July. At least we'll have nice weather for it!
