Oi! It was BBC CHOICE NI (shorter than other Nations) and even at that it soon became dogless.
Does anyone else remember when the BBC One regions launched in full on Sky, each had a DOG on the first day (apparently for testing purposes)? The 'BBC ONE East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire' DOG was particularly spectacular.

From what i remember, UK Today was a right pain in the rear at 1:30pm weekdays. For some reason there would always be a lot of news happening at this time of day and it really restricted News 24 to some degree. Half the time BBC One ended up crashing into News 24 in the middle of a live or something. It didnt look very good. But i dont think UK Today got much in the way of ratings anyway. It was only ever to be a tempory filler programme.

Sorry - must have been BBC CHOICE Scotland that looked so ridiculous. I watched the BBC CHOICE Wales close down - and they even had in-vis continuity - and took the DOG out to say goodbye.

That happened when the Netherlands cable feed switched to a satellite feed of BBC One England (and thus got UK Today) from their previous, slightly dodgy, off-air feed picked up from England, which carried Newsroom South East (think the switch happened before South East Today)

No one seems to have mentioned how it was used for BBC One abroad - very useful I found when on holiday in the Netherlands. Then again, nowadays I can watch my regional news whilst there.

I'm a regular visitor to the Netherlands. I do recall seeing SET in 14:9 letterbox there, so they carried on using the off-air signal from Dover. I think most Dutch cable cos switched to BBC 1 and 2 D-Sat in summer 2003, shortly after the encryption was dropped. I was there yesterday, and watched BBC 1 London and BBC 2 England, both in 16:9 'deep letterbox'.

It was necessary to allow the BBC & Sky to check the many postcode regions were correctly set up.
The Logo Generator is still in circuit!, and imaginatively used on the Channel Islands DSAT service to flag up the Jersey opt I believe.

Presumably they don't have to do this on the Ten any more.
ISTR that they used their DOG because the National News used to hand over with the words "Now its time to join our news teams across the UK" - and technically the Channel Islands aren't in the UK and hated that form of words.
Now that on the Ten, Huw and Fiona say "Join our news teams where you are" or "where you live" they presumably don't have to put up the "Channel Islands too" DOG...
