Anybody know why UK Today was ended and when this happened?I'd like to compile all the details if that's possible.

IIRC, UK Today ended when all the English regions became available on Sky Digital. UK Today was a 'national regional' programme so to speak - the programme featured reports from the regional news teams across the UK. It was presented from a small desk opposite the main set in N6 (BBC1 news studio).

I forget the exact date it ended, but the sustaining feed became BBC London News once UK Today ended.

In that case, would it be around 2000 when BBC London began?

It actually ended when a selection of regional news programmes became available via BBCi on the red button (at 6.30pm only).

One thing I always wondered about UK Today was why it contained so much news from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland when their respective regional news programmes have always been available on Sky. Surely England Today would have been more logical.

Actually, the BBC1 Nations haven't always been available on Sky Digital. It always used to be just BBC2, hence why the English forum members went mad during Wimbledon 2001 when the Six O'Clock News was moved to BBC2, hence the Nations news programmes could be seen by those in England.

I seem to remember always getting BBC One Scotland, but 102 was a network version of BBC Two.
Whichever way around it was, it ceased being a problem when the BBC Choice nations ceased.

Not true. BBC ONE Nations have always been available, with BBC TWO network and BBC CHOICE Nations the original line up. CHOICE was dropped and the available channels were, as now, BBC ONE Nations and BBC TWO Nations.

English regions have never been able to opt on digital BBC TWO.

That's strange, as I recall there being loads of excitement on TV Forum way back in June 2001 when we could all watch the Nations news programmes because the news was on BBC2 instead. If the BBC1 Nations had been available all the time, there wouldn't have been any hype.
